  • Could someone explain please, on the SEA website, having answered all the questions it then suggests what I may, or may not, be eligible for and it gives me an 'investment required' figure. Is this my investment on top of the £5000 grant or is the grant included in this figure. So for example for an air source heat pump the 'investment required' figure is £8500. But surely the grant would cover £5000 of this leaving me with £3500 to pay myself. I for one know that AHSPs don't cost £13500 so I'm assuming that the grant will cover most of it but if anyone could clarify it would be most appreciated.

I think it's safe to assume that the 'investment required' is the gross figure, before grant.  The site is only giving you a plan of what you need - it's not giving you a grant or even assuming you can get one.  The grant - in the form of a 'voucher' is only available after you have got a quote from an approved contractor and applied for one.  The site isn't doing that bit.  This stage is just conceptual, not financial.

    Hello
Does anyone know typically how much this Low carbon heating, such as air-source or ground-source heat pumps costs to install? I am assuming BIG money?
    thanks

Somewhere between 6-8k for an air source heat pump, not sure about the ground source ones.

I’m not too clear on one point. Do you have to get quotes only from those companies shown on the list that links from the simple energy website?
I’m looking for flat roof insulation and there are only a few companies listed near me - so not much choice.

It looks like you have to get quotes from the approved installers, then make the voucher application, then get the work done.

I am still trying to figure out whether air-to-air source heating is eligible and more details about replacement doors. I'm curious as to whether my old double glazed doors could be replaced with some very energy efficient bifolds. There is minimal information available at present but I will contact a few of the local installers to check.

So we don't have a list of approved installers yet?

I am contacting various companies now via the links shown. But the
approved traders seem a long way away. 60 70 or 80 miles. E mails seem not to be used, just mobile numbers. For example, all-green.org.uk is not recognised. All sounds very fly by night.

I must admit - I’m always a bit wary of companies who only give mobile numbers. I have been checking on Companies House to see how established these companies are. Some I can’t find!

  • Having same issue, all the "accredited" seem to be mobile numbers and having setup in the last couple months.

Unfortunately, an 01 or 02 number isn't a guarantee of a 'real' landline, many are 'virtual' numbers that redirect.  You can choose a virtual number in almost any area code if you want to appear more local than you really are.
You can check 01 and 02 numbers here.
