Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in life!
Please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include some mention of flying.
Thank you Valli for last week's thread
Please follow the forum rules on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should have some Flylady-related (ooh a compound adjective) content!
The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the wagon!
Every room comes back around next week so please don’t stress about catching up
These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.
Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.
A few of the basics before we start the week
Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!
Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.
Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.
Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.
Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis
HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
WM ~ Washing machine
TD ~ Tumble dryer
SC ~ Slowcooker
BM ~ Breadmaker
DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its potential!
MAD half hour- Mad is the abbreviation for Make A Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth bridge (ie never-ending - or just huge) task but that you work on it in half-hour bursts. This way you know you ARE stooping, and that you won't get it finished but you will make a difference - so it might be clearing out - the garage or shed, or clothes sorting, or weeding - you get the picture - but rather than keep going until you've lost the will to live you do half an hour...but, eventually those half hours will get the job done!
Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

I’m in, thank you for the lists.
WM loaded for tomorrow, list made for paid stuff in the hope that it will stop me from waking up and thinking about it.
take care all x8 -
Thank you Natty. I'll be muddling along. My house is looking better in some places than it was last week but definitely worse in others!
I have boxed up most of the paper and card which I inherited a few years ago, to give to DS1+2 for DGC and/or work.
Other than that, I have
- cleared the spare bed of all but 5 punched pockets which contain current paperwork
- cleared more stuff out of the cupboard on the landing and binned a lot of it
- found the paint tins under the stairs and binned two almost empty ones which were for walls that we have repainted in a different colour
- packed up my car ready for the tip run tomorrow (by appointment only), including half an old railway layout from DH (on Friday he persuaded some council workmen who were clearing rubbish outside a neighbour's house to take the other two sections, but he wanted to remove the "valuable" points motors from this section)
- helped DH move a couple of items in his man cave, and hoovered the floor so that the bits from his overflowing shredder don't get trodden into the rest of the house!
- taken Rosie for her walk
- prepared and cooked meals
- made the blackcurrant cake.
The lady who collects the teddies has gone on holiday for a week, so I have more time to finish my Hero Dr

I am in, thank you for lists. Fishing didnt happen so pottered around with DH. Started to get all anxious and wobbly for no apparent reason and DH virtually pushed me out of the house, put the hoe in my hand and told me to get gardening. It helped.
HM pizza for tea, first time we have had bread flour for ages. Nice dog walk, its been a lovely evening. Have done a mealplan and a to do list for the week. DS is seeing the consultant on Wednesday, busy week at the paid stuff otherwise.11 -
Thanks Natty for the lists and thanks Valli for last week.
2 loads of washing dry & folded, DW emptied & restacked. DH cut the grass & made my potting bench, which is now in the greenhouse 😁 I did the food shop.
In the garden I potted on a cucumber & a tomato and planted out 3 busy lizzies. I also weeded the flower border, swept out the greenhouse and laid the garlic on the bottom shelf of the bench to dry out. I have a trug of stuff to take to the allotment & add to the compost heap. The garden has been watered.
We had a SD visit from mil & sil - both are still very nervous of going anywhere so that is progress.
Mr Mouse has been spotted in the utility room - I was hoping he had moved on!
And that brings another week to a close. This year is whizzing by! (possibly a good thing with the way this year has been!) I hope everyone has a good week. I hope to have a productive week! Night night all!

Thanks for lists.
Well done for your non-ParkRun Goodi but how annoying about your timing. I did mine but not such a good time as last week, haven't dared check to see if I am the slowest in Harlow; probably.
Wrote a mainly garden list this morning in preparation for a friend coming round for garden Indian meal delivery this evening.
- although first on the list was to clean guest bathroom for him, the only place he was likely to go indoors.
- watered all basket plants and greenhouse
- finished weeding/tidying patio area
-clear miscellaneous piles of pruning debris and weed piles from various places around garden!
- did a bit of online course.
- did online church service and also the Zoom coffee meeting afterwards.
Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.10 -

I'm in this week please! Not sure what happened to last week, but it seems that it's already Sunday evening!
Boys are in to school tomorrow and I've already packed their lunches, ready for the morning. I've got an early doggy daycare arriving just after 7am, so need to be bright-eyed and bushy tailed in about 8 hours...some hope! Been fully booked with dogs all weekend and it's been fantastic, if slightly chaotic and I've walked over 11,000 steps each day. If I don't lose weight this week, I will cry.
Flying has been slotted in around other busy tasks, but house actually looks OK, so pretty pleased with that. Glad it's the kitchen tomorrow though, as it always looks like a bomb has hit it after the weekend. I promise to catch up with all the news, but hugs, sticks and spoons are all in a basket by the front door - please help yourselves!
Ooh, Iona - I already have roots on my water-propagated donkey's tail leaves - all 26 of them! Still waiting for the string of pearls to start sprouting, but hopeful10 -
Thank you Natty and Valli for listys. I will try to be in this week. My kitchen definitely needs me to fly round on the morningThe cold never bothered me anyway9
