I suspect the world may be in for a shock re. Electric cars one day.i should say this is just a hunch, not factual knowledge. Nobody seems to mention issues relating to the rare metals used in batteries, environmental impact of mining them and are these miners 12 year old children out of the glare of media?
I just think that EV's are being marketed as a panacea, yes they are part of the solution but we don't have the whole picture?

Just to answer one piece of ill informed rubbish you are repeating,  you are no doubt talking about cobalt because thats the latest hot button the fossil fuel industry uses to try and stop the inevitable decline of their cash cow toxic product.

It will likely come as a shock to you to learn that one of the biggest uses for cobalt is to refine petrol, where its irretrievably lost as part of that process,  its not recyclable as the (gradually diminishing by %) amount of cobalt used in Lithium batteries is.
So, if "12 year olds mining cobalt" is an issue for you, better stop driving your petrol car as you are using more cobalt than an EV driver since every time you drive there's some more cobalt gone.

And no, of course EVs arent the whole answer, but dont let perfect be the enemy of good.

(and, if you are so concerned about 12 year old kids, stop driving around in your petrol car emitting toxic fumes they are forced to breathe in).

Having 'Giga' as the ticker while you try to progress your mining project to feasibility stage and allow rumours of a tieup with Tesla to circulate is something that can help your share price to bounce around a bit! Prior to the last week or so, the 1 year price range was about $0.12 to $0.8, so a bounce to over $2 temporarily today leaves people wondering how much more of a pump might they catch before the dump. Is it a $30m company or an $80m company or a $1bn company or a $0 company...

With my monthly SIPP contribution in April I decided to have a punt on MERI which is invested in late stage private equity like TransferWise, Graphcore, Starling Bank and Hut Group (and some more). Up 55% since then and I have decided to stick with it.

You may simply have bought into the Covid crash price at the right time. Looks like its back to where it was a year ago or so?
For an update on that question, it seems that some of the growth was down to a recovery from a 30% discount which MERI briefly hit in this years crash, but the bulk of it has actually come from a significant increase in the underlying NAV, which has jumped in stages from £1.09 in March to £1.42 today. There have been some large re-ratings of Hut Group, Transferwise and Klarna which are all big positions in the fund. Hut Group IPO still to come.

I am getting pretty close to a 100% return from when I bought in early April but very happy to let this trust run. I'm sure it will take a lot longer to get the next 100% gain.

It reached the peak at US$290 and slowly go down  and currently trading around US$240.

You do not want to enter the market when they are around tthe peak with such volatility. Too many day traders, short sellers generating the noise in the market. Volatility is good but you do not enter the market  when they are at peak.

Traditional IPO such as Snowflake is not good for retailer investor as you get the leftover of what the Institutional Investors, hedge funds do not want. These people could get the stoke around the IPO price which is US$120 before the stock are launched in the market. So almost guarantee win for them. Also, some people could get the stock OTC before the stock go public at around the IPO price.

This is IPOC. I have been trying to enter at around US$13 since two weeks ago but never get luck. It iis now trading  trading at around uS$16.30.
If you are interest he also has IPOB. It has not got a company to merge with.
Another similar to this is PSTH owned by Bill Ackman.
These SPACs are very good because these billionaires put a reasonable amount of their own money into the SPAC they have founded. They are also only targeting a mature unicorn company, so it is actually also good for a long tem holding.

All very confusing because Chamath is involved with a few IPO/SPAC and the names are similar.
I have "IPOC" currently trading at $12.15 on TradingView.com
And on HL there is SOCIAL CAPITAL HEDOSOPHIA HOLDINGS CORP III (IPOCU) trading at $13.50
He does mention IPOB which is trading at $16.27

    LOL :)

  • I tend to shy away from speculating and stick to investing. Sure that means I miss out on the Zooms, Pelotons etc but how many similar companies like these have failed to cut the mustard. Come to think of it, it will be interesting to see how Apple's recent fitness subscription service will impact on Peloton going forward. The problem for me with speculating is that everything seems so much like common sense in hindsight....
