I will second jess444's pear/walnut/blue cheese combo - that's one of my favourites.
My dutch in-laws gave me gawd-knows how many kilos of home grown walnuts and over here they sell chicory everywhere - loads of it and always on special offer. It's also fantastic with walnuts and blue cheese.
The other day I tried this salad (inspired by a recipe in Sarah Raven's Garden Cookbook)
chicory+sliced orange+toasted walnuts
I made a dressing from orange juice, olive oil, salt, pepper, lemon zest. She uses part olive oil part walnut oil, but I didn't have any - tasted fantastic anyway!0 -
This is a fab thread.
I've no great suggestions, but I'm learning!0 -
when i make a salad at home i always make more to use up the leftovers and put it in a lunchbox keep in the fridge overnight to take as my packed lunch to work the next day .. its better than having the leftovers hanging about in the fridge and not getting used! i use cherry toms but dont halve them for my lunchbox salad to keep it from getting too wet. i also keep quiche in the freezer frozen in slices so that there is always somthing to go with the lunchbox salad if i dont have other leftovers to put with it.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

Does anyone know how to make the chicken salad that you get in America.
It's chicken with a mayonaise and something else, but I don't know what.0 -
Sorry no but googled 'american chicken salad' for you and loads of different variations came up. You might find it on there if no one on here knows (though I'm sure someone will)

Green Salad with Blue Cheese and Raspberry dressing
Put a handful of raspberries into a jar, with 50g crumbled Danish Blue. Cover with raspberry vinegar.
Add 1/2 tsp mustard and a pinch each of salt, pepper and sugar.
Add as much extra-virgin olive oil again.
Shake and serve over green salad leaves.
Sounds a bit strange, I know, but it's fabulous.0 -

Hi hot.chick,
One of my favourites is tricolore which is tomato, avocado and buffalo mozzarella with a garlic and balsamic dressing and torn basil leaves.
These threads should give you some inspiration:
