That's really interesting about the mortgage - I never thought I'd find mortgages interesting. I should pay you a fee for doing all the research for me, because I'm going to ring Abbey and ask about the exact same thing. Unfortunately my mortgage is 3 times the size of yours so we have no hope of paying it off in ten years, but I like the sound of the flexibility.

I'm going to pay the money tax holiday money etc as overpayments plus anything else not required as an overpayment to the mortgage so that it then automatically goes into the pot..I think thats how it works and will then pay my tax out of it and my holiday all the other bills I'll pay by the normal account..IYSWIM...the flexibility is made for us and it's in their intermediaries literature..I found that on the internet.
i also like the idea that I don't have to have my current account it's completely seperate in another bank...if you phone them can you ask how the overpayments work and the offset bit as I may have got things wrong but think I've understood most of it

    Hi everyone:hello::hello::hello:
Can't describe how happy I am...I think this is the year that I finally sort everything out:T:T
Today can't get any better!!!!!....it's lovely weather (for a change) so I've been for a walk. Then the window man gave me a call re the back door and it's cheaper than I thought so will be done sooner. I didn't think with my debts that I would ever get any of the jobs done for years. So these things alone are positive!!!!
Then I phoned my MA and I've got the mortgage:j:hello::hello::hello::hello::hello::hello::hello:..so tomorrow being our day off we will go to the solicitors and take the ID as requested and get him to delay until 31st march as that's when our ERC runs out...will phone mortgage co to confirm this date before going.
I'm then having my wonderful grandson all weekend so while having time off I have had a rest I've completely sorted our finances out...so am now feeling confident and hopeful that I will be debt free and mortgage free by the end of 2011...
    My plans are
    (1) carry on and get all the DG replaced with cash no debt
    (2) put all tax savings and holiday moneys and any spare as mortgage overpayments (I can take these anytime)
    (3) pay halifax card off ASAP
    (4) pay egg off ASAP
    (5) let the loans run their course as there is no point in paying off early.

I am going to look at the mortgage calculator again to check how much diff £1000 p/m overpayment makes and will post that later

I'm so happy this is being such a good day for you. It's a good feeling when things are starting to go right for people on this board.

    Thanks ZTD...
I'm glad it's all sorted as how many years we can keep up working 72 hours a week each for at least i can see the end. When all debt is duly paid we only intend to work 5 days a week each instead of 6 and then we can take up interests.
I'm with you I love to see people on here coming out the other end. I could never have attempted anything like this without the help and knowledge on here.So I have Martin and the MSE community to thank for that...
I feel so relieved to have found the answers at last....and that light is shining...
    LOVE YOU ALL

Taxi, that is the best thing I have heard in ages. I am so glad for you. And it's well deserved, you've been such an inspiration on here.

Thanks you 2...what a lovely thing to say.It also helps that showing DH overpayment calculators he now understands what we are aiming for and he's always supportive anyway but doesn't understand finance.
When I look at our situation this time last year when we had two choices either to change firms or end up bankrupt and see where we are now I can't believe it. Obviously I still have loads of debt to go at but I can see the light...I'm not having at least 5 months off this year so thats a good start.
The last few weeks I haven't been to work much and did feel guilty but am now looking at it that the time I've had off is going to enrich our lives and that we are both prepared to work the long hours until it's all paid off!!!
You are all such a support to me and I thankyou from the bottom of my heart for that. MSE has to be the best financial support system in the world!!!
I've also made another big deciscion in that after I have taxed and MOT'd the old car ...a very well serviced Zafira ....I am going to sell it and put the funds in the overpayment fund so these knock my other bills down in turn as we do not need the car.
I expect £3000-£3500 for it so thats a big chunk off...I've a few things flying around my head at the minute!!!
Tomorrow i need to take the ID to the solicitors along with a letter stating that my ERC finishes 31 march and that I need them to proceed then....
I've paid my tax bill online today and have posted a DD form to BT for the phone line as I had to cancel the 4? that they set up by mistake when I went back to them!!!
that's enough from me now as I don't want to bore you all...take care xx

    Afternoon everyone,
not a lot to report today...won £10 on lottery don't usually do it...been to the solicitors with the ID for the mortgage and received the papers for the offer for the new mortgage which is valid until July...
Just put money into my tax account and holiday account..so getting there...
Apart from that just the washing to do today and to hoover.
Came back to find a card through the door from royal mail to say they had tried to deliver a package too large to fit through the letter box ..I haven't ordered anything.so have to wait 24 hours before going!!!
Like I say nothing to report
