Gerry1 said:Based on your meter readings from new, you're using 35.9% at night. Using the estimated 15428kWh annual consumption, you're paying £2219 with Bulb. However (in my area, YMMV) that would cost £1751 with Symbio, £1917 with Neon Reef single rate, £2081 with Yorkshire Energy and £2091 with GNE.That's one example of how you're doing everything wrongly.Agreed Gerry but there's a fundamental cause of this high consumption to be solved first. What is this night time use when there are no storage rads working; why is the day time so highNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Forgive me if this is a silly question but how does a wood burner heat a 3 bedroom bungalow?

Yes, something strange is going on. Maybe even a Rogue Meter, although less likely because it can't be down to a battery reaching the end of its life and getting cold.Robin9 said:Gerry1 said:Based on your meter readings from new, you're using 35.9% at night. I have, however, just been informed It has a 3 bar pump on the shower but it is not an electric shower it’s gravity fedWe have a slightly smaller tank than you, a similar pumped shower, 3 people in house, each showering every day and we use less than 9kWh a day on hot water with indirect gas heating.Your direct electric immersion heater should be more efficient and use less than that but given your daily consumption figures it seems likely to be using a lot more, what do you have the hot water temperature set to on the immersion thermostat? Is the immersion heater a single element fitted close to the top or is it two, one high and one low on the cylinder? (just follow the wiring if not sure).... and is the tank insulated or just bare copper?0 -
How long have you been in the bungalow ? We see the meter was changed in 2018. Was the consumption just as high before the meter was changed?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

It should be fairly straightforward to check if this is all down to the immersion. Simply take a meter reading, turn the immersion off for 24 hours, then 24 hours later take a reading again before turning the immersion back on. The sorta relies on having taken Talldaves earlier advice to take daily meter readings. Give it an hour or maybe two and read the meter again.
The usage of a full tank (all the hot I take it, not 160 litres?) makes me wonder if you’re on a water meter and what that might be costing! Seems like a lot of money saving is possible here with a bit of care and investigation.0 -
On the 3rd of July post, the OP says that no bills were issued from the Start Date of the account in Sept 2018, until a first bill was issued in June 2020 - This meets the Back-billing rule in Spades and probably explains the issue of a large Credit.I think Gerry 1's advice to change suppliers is good - The credit will have to be reimbursed with the Switch and there are cheaper suppliers out therePersonal note - I've been looking at ECO7 tariffs this morning, and leaving Symbio aside due to feed back on their rather odd accounting system, the next best is Yorkshire Energy who I happen to be with at present.Because YE require monthly readings from their customers, this discipline will help the OP to get a handle on their useage and costs1

Blimey how long are you in the shower for? Even a power shower only uses about 9-10 litres a minute so that suggests 15mins plus long showers. We have a 160 litre tank and a 3 bar shower pump feeding showers in both bathrooms and we can easily get two showers at the same time and still have enough hot water left for another shower (and my better half isn't exactly quick in the showerdawnkeeling said:
