Nearly everyone I know doesn’t pay half of what I pay for electricity and gasIt's because you're doing almost everything wrongly. No meter readings, probably very expensive kWh rates and standing charges, peak E7 immersion heater. It's like having a bath without putting a plug in the plughole. What are the rates and daily charges that you are paying (don't forget VAT)?

I have an electric range cooker, I only use one oven and the hob. None of the above, I do have American fridge freezer but all my appliances are A+ rated at the least, I made sure of that. I don’t even use hairdryers etc. I do have a coffee machine but it’s used instead of the kettle. My most extravagant appliance is a tumble dryer used mainly in the winter, rarely used any other time, oh and a hand held hoover that’s always on charge. But I wouldn’t say that’s anymore than an awful lot of other peopleRobin9 said:Other uses ? Fish tanks / greenhouse heaters / pond pumps / big or old freezers ....................0 -
How small is small. Mine's 106 litres and only needs to be on for 3 hours a day for the majority of the year and that's for 2 of us. We do have an electric shower however.dawnkeeling said:
It’s not just me all the time, especially at the minute but generally it’s just me Monday-Friday and then 2 people for the weekend. I also work most of the week. The problem with the water is a very small tank so is constantly running out of water unless it’s on all the timeRobin9 said:There's no need to have the immersion on constantly. It should have two switches - the one that is labelled BOOST should be switched off. If there's just one of you then you should have plenty of hot water even at this time of the evening.
There's more going on ...................0 -
Based on your meter readings from new, you're using 35.9% at night. Using the estimated 15428kWh annual consumption, you're paying £2219 with Bulb. However (in my area, YMMV) that would cost £1751 with Symbio, £1917 with Neon Reef single rate, £2081 with Yorkshire Energy and £2091 with GNE.That's one example of how you're doing everything wrongly. You really should install gas central heating if at all possible.0

Sadly this is not possible as it’s a rental and there is no gas here, it’s very ruralGerry1 said:Based on your meter readings from new, you're using 35.9% at night. Sorry to be pushy on this, but "apparently" or "I've confirmed it's mine by running a consumption test against the meter with the serial number on the bill"?dawnkeeling said:
Yep my meter apparently. I have 2 storage heaters but they’re switched off at the wall as they don’t work properly. They’re about 30 years oldTalldave said:Are the meter readings actually for the meter you're connected to? Because those readings would suggest a property with storage heaters running full whack.
Not sure if you're in a flat where meters are all together or house where it's under the stairs and obviously the one that's supplying the property.
It's just that your consumption doesn't seem to match your lifestyle - except for the immersion heater perhaps?? It would be worth reading the meter daily for a few days and experiment with shutting off the immersion for extended periods to see the effect on consumption.0 -
It’s 160litre tank stewie_griffin. I have, however, just been informed It has a 3 bar pump on the shower but it is not an electric shower it’s gravity fed1

I will do that, thanks. It’s a bungalow and the meter is outside the propertyTalldave said:
