I could do this and sometimes do. I was just responding to bala's comment by pointing out that willing eaters are greatly valued by bakers for reasons that she might not have thought of, that's all.joedenise said:
Most baked things can be frozen so couldn't you still make it, portion it up and freeze the rest? Means you could have a slice of cake (or whatever) whenever you fancy as slices, which wouldn't take long to defrost.goldfinches said:
A big part of the enjoyment of baking for me is seeing and hearing others tucking in. My next planned bake serves 12 so I prefer there to be a ratio of 11 non-bakers to one of me IYSWIM.balabooberlies said:That's a good idea. If only I knew how to bake...............

In lockdown I started walking more - I was amazed every sunday there seemed to be a mass furniture dump in our area for the monday bin collection! I saw a lovely pine bedside cabinet abandoned on the pavement (by a fence so not even by any bins) and I thought if its there next day I will pick it up in the car on the way to work - it was... I did.... Hubby was horrified! it needs a sanding down and revarnishing as its got nasty paint on one side but I have a sander and varnish so it won't take long. As hubby has nabbed my telephone table to put his printer on now he is working from home - dumped cabinet it very much used hall cabinet and router holder! absolute bargain find, would never have been brave enough to pick up disgarded stuff before lockdown (when I walk more and got utterly obsessed by furniture upcycling pages on facebook!) I have read the entire thread and am in awe of your finds. Will start looking for coupons now too :-)

            Oh that's absolutely great Misfire.
In my books anything rescued from going to the dump is a teeny tiny way of caring for the planet. I have been stunned by the ingenuity and skills revealed on this thread. So well done you !

I found another voucher/coupon. £3.00 off a £30.00 spend. Will have to look out for someone who could use it. We are okay for the moment.
If it helps any one it's the Coop. I either find them on the floor or by the self checkout.
Happy findings.........

When I use a Co-op money off voucher they always ask me for my loyalty card, so I don't know if the coupons are specific to who it was originally given to. All well and good if not, but I wouldn't like anyone to be refused at the till which would be embarrassing, and annoying if you'd deliberately bought more than you wanted just so you could use it!balabooberlies said:I found another voucher/coupon. £3.00 off a £30.00 spend. KeiWee said:I take 'used' AA batteries from the battery recycling box at the till at the local supermarket to power my portable radio that runs off 2xAA batteries. I can normally get a few weeks out of the batteries I am reusing before they are finally recycled by me as the radio uses so little power (This wouldn't work with a DAB radio as they are very power hungry). I like to say that after buying a portable radio (I got a bargain from Amazon warehouse for a decent Sony radio that should last forever) you can have free entertainment, documentaries and news for the rest of your life.
We have 2 battery powered catflaps where the timers stop working properly when the batteries start losing power. We've been saving them up all year to power various sets of Christmas lights.

            Hello Bogoff
I do have a loyalty card and have used the coupons successfully. I have also given a £1.50 off a £15.00 spend to an elderly gentleman who was in front of me in the queue. The manager was serving and I asked his permission. The elderly gentleman was thrilled. I have also given away other coupons, successfully used.
Hope that clears things up.

A small "find" today - I generally get given carrot & beetroot tops by the greengrocers at the market for my chickens; they love greens, and it helps make their egg yolks a lovely rich golden orange. But today's box of "offcuts" also contained two apples with smallish blemishes, a bruised pomegranate and a squishy pear; it had obviously been the box they just chuck anything unsaleable into. I've kept the apples for a crumble on Sunday, but you should have heard the happy beak-smacking when I popped the pear & pomegranate into the run!Angie - GC Nov 25 £58.39/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 40/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)9

            Thriftwizard. How lovely.
I think part of my joy of finding things I can re-use is the pleasant surprise it always brings. In a year where things hit the mundane level I will take 'pleasant surprise' any day of the week. Although I will confess that finding £30.00 was more on the level of shock !
Best of all is when you can share your findings with beloved animals.
Let's hope you are pleasantly surprised again next week.

I've had a couple of rough days and it's the little things that restore your sense of perspective and that comment made me smile and brightened my day. I hadn't really realised chickens were capable of being discerning and expressing pleasure. Every day, as I often say, is a school day. Happy chickens, lovely.thriftwizard said:[...] you should have heard the happy beak-smacking when I popped the pear & pomegranate into the run!6
