That's a good idea.  If only I knew how to bake...............   :)

A big part of the enjoyment of baking for me is seeing and hearing others tucking in. My next planned bake serves 12 so I prefer there to be a ratio of 11 non-bakers to one of me IYSWIM.
Most baked things can be frozen so couldn't you still make it, portion it up and freeze the rest?  Means you could have a slice of cake (or whatever) whenever you fancy as slices, which wouldn't take long to defrost.
I could do this and sometimes do. I was just responding to bala's comment by pointing out that willing eaters are greatly valued by bakers for reasons that she might not have thought of, that's all.
Off to bed now, sweet dreams to all, goldfinches.

In my books anything rescued from going to the dump is a teeny tiny way of caring for the planet.  I have been stunned by the ingenuity and skills revealed on this thread.  So well done you !

  • I found another voucher/coupon.  £3.00 off a £30.00 spend.  Will have to look out for someone who could use it.  We are okay for the moment.

If it helps any one it's the Coop.  I either find them on the floor or by the self checkout.

    Happy findings.........

When I use a Co-op money off voucher they always ask me for my loyalty card, so I don't know if the coupons are specific to who it was originally given to.  All well and good if not, but I wouldn't like anyone to be refused at the till which would be embarrassing, and annoying if you'd deliberately bought more than you wanted just so you could use it!

I take 'used' AA batteries from the battery recycling box at the till at the local supermarket to power my portable radio that runs off 2xAA batteries. I can normally get a few weeks out of the batteries  I am reusing before they are finally recycled by me as the radio uses so little power (This wouldn't work with a DAB radio as they are very power hungry). I like to say that after buying a portable radio (I got a bargain from Amazon warehouse for a decent Sony radio that should last forever) you can have free entertainment, documentaries and news for the rest of your life.

We have 2 battery powered catflaps where the timers stop working properly when the batteries start losing power. We've been saving them up all year to power various sets of Christmas lights.

  • Thriftwizard.  How lovely.

I think part of my joy of finding things I can re-use is the pleasant surprise it always brings.  In a year where things hit the mundane level I will take 'pleasant surprise' any day of the week.  Although I will confess that finding £30.00 was more on the level of shock !

Best of all is when you can share your findings with beloved animals.

Let's hope you are pleasantly surprised again next week.
