Went to dump/recycling center and was pleased that most got recycled.
Came home with a beautiful mirror (vintage style but 'new'). Also wicker basket with tags still attached. The mirror has never been used. The glass is beveled so good quality. There was a pile of things just inviting you to look. At the front was a brand new radiator still in packaging. Previous owner put a sign on it with all dimensions and capacity.
OH said 'you can't do that !'. Well.............I did.

Just a quick update.
Beginning of last week was walking my dog quite late around 8.30 am. Outside one of my favourite charity shops (Sally Army) there was a HUGE wire heart with slots to put photos and I knew immediately who the recipient was going to be. So, dug in my pocket and as I was trying to put money through the letter box the manager came out from the back room. I had been caught in the act !To cut a long story short we had a lovely chat. Alongside was a box of clothes that had got damp/wet. She explained the reasons why she couldn't take it in. In the bin it went................the heart weeps at the waste.
2 days later around the same time I observed another manager of a different charity shop arrive for work, glance quickly in to 2 plastic bags, pick them up and put them by the bins. I HAD to look, it would have been rude not to...........
Inventory from memory : An unopened pot of paint, a CD player, lever arch files. Can't remember what else.
The thing that gets me is that every single charity shop has a large notice imploring people NOT to leave things outside.
Oh well, the heart has been quarantined, sanitized and scrubbed to within an inch of it's life and I even know what I am going to put in the slots.
Happy 'findings' to all............

So, as the year closes I am tallying all that I have found. Just over £100.00..............from outside on the street, in old bags and purses, old coats put aside. It is worth trying to de-clutter. The last lot was 96 pence found in a corner of a huge bag that I could have sworn I had already emptied. I was just as thrilled with that as with the paper money found. It always feels like an unexpected gift.
I have also found a mini mountain of old diaries/note pads unused. How I have so many is beyond me but they will be put to good use. Nieces and nephew still at that age when the need for paper is always present. However, one shall be designated for all my 'finds' for 2021.
Am still thrilled with my lovely mirror, plastic bin, wicker basket and a myriad of other things that have been put to good use either by me or those that I have passed them on to. A shot in the arm for recycling.
Also grateful to the poster (I think it was Mrs S.D) that suggested a different way to give money to the charities other than putting it loose through their letter box . I have 2 envelopes by my side that I am going to put in my coat pocket. The manager that I spoke to last week was thrilled that I was paying/donating for the wire heart.
Anyway, happy findings to all

Just went back and checked.
Big THANK YOU to Mrs Salad Dodger. Because of you I am organised with envelopes and money and now don't feel guilty picking anything up from outside a closed charity shop.
Big Hug

I've enjoyed following this thread and thought I would mention a place I have had some interesting 'finds' . My daily dog walk is usually around our local cemetary which is a lovely nature haven, full of wildlife. I certainly don't go diving into the bins but often left on top are vases, flower pots, sometimes complete with viable plants, christmas wreaths complete with candles, lovely new looking silk flowers, collections of pretty glass pebbles. I think some people like to regularly renew what they leave out for their loved ones and can't be bothered to take things home. If I had more energy my garden could be spectacular with finds from here, I particularly like the sparkly glass pebbles to brighten the parts of the garden which have gravel and we have been using some nice candles that were just abandoned. Maybe some people think this is morbid as things have been on a grave but to me it is just 'unwanted stuff' and if it can be used again that is a good thing.
I keep a carrier bag in my dog walking coat pocket, there is a house we pass which sometimes leaves out a pile of 'please take if you can use' things, there were some lovely childrens books which are put by until my grandchildren are a little bit older so I can have a box of things to amuse them when they visit. You just never know what you will come across. I love finding money and am going to try and keep a record next year , usually it's just copper coins but sometimes pound coins and even a £10 note just before Christmas . I haven't a clue what it would add up to , not a huge amount but every little helps .Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/25 -

Hello Oyster Catcher
Wow, how wonderful. I like many cannot abide waste so anything discarded (no matter where) is begging for a home if it's still usable. Silk flowers are expensive ! (And pretty).
For my Tiggy I used to use plastic bags (the thin ones) but as we mostly have cloth or bags for life I was getting a little worried. Until I remembered a programme about wales. Off the coast of Norway there were Walkers crisp packets and inevitably a beached whale was autopsied and yes, in it's stomach was a Walkers crisp packet which is not recyclable. OH buys the large sharing packets or multi buys. I now use them for my Tiggy, if and when needed. At least they get 2 uses.
Gosh, have gone off on a tangent. What I was going to say was.........what a good idea ! I will be carrying a spare bag from now on.
