That really made me chuckle, bala. This thread is suddenly becoming very interesting, I'm watching with bated breath!

Have found several useful sized pieces of thin board piled up beside a neighbour's bins, I've picked up several to cover with foil to use as cake boards for when we're allowed to share food with others on picnics etc. in the future.

Found this morning. ( 'Free' sign).  A brand new plastic bin for the kitchen.  The one we have must be 30 years old but it still functions...........I have always disliked it.  Now it can go.

I take 'used' AA batteries from the battery recycling box at the till at the local supermarket to power my portable radio that runs off 2xAA batteries. I can normally get a few weeks out of the batteries  I am reusing before they are finally recycled by me as the radio uses so little power (This wouldn't work with a DAB radio as they are very power hungry). I like to say that after buying a portable radio (I got a bargain from Amazon warehouse for a decent Sony radio that should last forever) you can have free entertainment, documentaries and news for the rest of your life.

It is normally 50/50 whether they have any juice left in them and the better the brand the more likely there is to be something left. I think the radio I have uses such as small amount of power running on 2 AA batteries only it can get away with it without affecting its performance until there is no power left in them. I suspect the people who are throwing them out are using them for torches or something similar where they get too dim or their function is notably compromised as the power is reduced so they just get rid of them.

A big part of the enjoyment of baking for me is seeing and hearing others tucking in. My next planned bake serves 12 so I prefer there to be a ratio of 11 non-bakers to one of me IYSWIM.

Most baked things can be frozen so couldn't you still make it, portion it up and freeze the rest?  Means you could have a slice of cake (or whatever) whenever you fancy as slices, which wouldn't take long to defrost.
