Hello, I might be getting universal credit because I don't have a job and can't even work at the moment due to health issues. Would I be able to go on holiday or abroad as I don't understand this. I would love to travel the world which is a dream of mine when covid is over
Read the thread - I think your question is already covered. In summary, you are allowed to be abroad as long as it is not more than one month and you are expected to continue to meet your Claimant Commitment throughout. There is no concept of a holiday on UC.
What does that mean that there is no concept of a holiday and I would be expected to meet my Claimant Commitment. What would that mean  :)
However as you said you have health issues it is possible you may qualify for the benefit that does not require jobseeking. I think its called esa. You would need to apply for this if you believe you are unfit for work. You would be assessed and need to be prepared that they may deem you fit for work.
The old income related ESA no longer exists for new claims as Universal Credit has replaced it. The only ESA that's possible to claim now is New style ESA and to claim this will depend on NI contributions in the previous 2 teax years from April 2018 to March 2020.

What would someone unfit for work do if they dont have the required ni contributions? There must be something they can claim?

They claim UC and have a Work Capability Assessment in the same way as ESA. UC has replaced income based ESA.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

That might be better yeah. From a operation I had a few months ago it is still giving me alot of discomfort from my wound and overall I am feeling still tired and not my normal self still so ESA might be better. I have a telephone appointment tommorw with UC so will see what they say
I would say expect the worst and then you wont be too disappointed as i suspect they would say that isnt enough to say you are unfit for work. You could try getting some advice from welfare rights or citizens advice.
To be fair not everyone has a bad experience there are a lot of people that are are successfully placed into one of the groups with no problems at all. This is one thing about forums, you will mostly only hear the bad stories.
