Hmm for last quarter I set myself an easy target of 5lb, and I went over and since it is the summer holidays where I am likely to get more exercise I think I will try to go for 8lb I know it might not seem like much but for me this is about long term weight management, and there is no where in a hot place this weight is coming back on once it comes off. I started up at 82.5 kg which is a sturdy weight for 5'7'' and I am now at 79kg which has moved the range down about a quarter of the overall 12 kg kg I want to loose. But I don't care how long it takes. It's taken me a decade and a half to put it on, if it takes a year to loose it it's fine - but it will happen. Cant wait to do an other quarter with this thread.Isa help to buy: 1000/3000 33%

@tighteningthebelt - frozen pineapple can help with the sore mouth/dodgy tastebuds during chemo. Concentrate on really good nutrition rather than just getting your calories from anywhere, and try to prep stuff in advance in case you get too tired to cook good stuff. Make a combination of bland stuff and spicy stuff to allow for your tastebuds going either way. Smoothies and cold soups can be good for sore mouths. Not personal experience, but from friends who gave advice when my dad was ill, as well as his experience. And before you start chemo, make sure you have a few meals eating the things you love, as you may find you don't enjoy them during chemo and for a while after.
While there probably aren't too many studies on things like herbs/spices etc. that are particularly advanced, the advice I was given for recovery from Covid was to eat as many different plants as I can a week (30+) which includes herbs and spices. I don't find this particularly difficult, but it might involve some meal planning (and soups and smoothies!). Stuff like turmeric/cinnamon/ginger mixed in to yogurt is supposed to be good too.11 -
Brilliant practical advice greenbee thank you. Let the meal planning commence!! I do like meal prepping so I shall sort my freezer out too, it's not bad but there is always room for improvement!A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome we can spare it, yellow socks10 -

And hopefully having something to focus on and be in control of will help too. You're probably going to need some stuff that is small portions and calorie dense at times, lots of protein etc to help healing - so take some time to think about what you've got, what you can do with it to get the most nutritional value and then you'll know what else to buy. Get a pineapple in every shop and slice it thinly and freeze it so you have bits to suck whenever you feel like it! I only wish we'd found out about that sooner with my dad as it helped enormously.

Hi,
Thanks for the new thread Brambling, could you please put me down for 17lbs.
Welcome bargainhunterss.
I calculated the percentage of weight lost so far which cheered me up, the scales have been stuck so far this week, thanks for the idea tighteningthebelt, well done reaching a milestone.
Yesterday I ate far too much chocolate.
Menu today
Breakfast: fried egg, streaky bacon and fried tomato, coffee with cream.
Lunch: mushed cauli, broccoli and cabbage pan fried, wasn’t quite bubble n squeak but was satisfying enough, with cold chicken and ploughman’s pickle. Strawbs and raspberries with a blob of Greek yoghurt.
Dinner: portobello mushroom with pepperoni pizza toppings, salad and a side of salted crispy spinach. Choc chia coconut dessert.
Evening snack: milk chocolate.
Take care all.

Hello x
Welcome to new people - we are a very friendly and supportive bunch x
Good luck for the chemo tighteningthebelt - i am with you in spirit. I agree with greenbee - when I was recovering from my major op last year it was more important to get food nutrition and I actually held off losing weight for a quarter. I still posted but concentrated on good food - I did still lose weight though so please don't worry. Steroids do impact your weight loss - well they have slowed it down for me - but health is the most important aspect x
Oh dear Ive still got a pash for raspberries and cream - well im going to try and curb it a little but they do taste delicious and having not eaten them for 5 years (bowel obstruction) Im really enjoying them and they are fruit and good for you…….yes? (well maybe not so much cream)
Blue_doggy good luck on conquering your demons will miss your posts xx
Have a good day xxxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.9 -
TTB hopefully that 60% loss with stand you in good stead when you have your treatment, you have to be healthier - just take things easy my friend one day at a time

Blue hope you are oksometimes we all need a dark room, gin and chocolate and to be left alone. We'll save a seat for you on the wagon we can all budge up a bit if a few lbs have crept back on
Ditty 8lb is more than I lost last quarter and leaves room to smash your target
Today has been the usual beginning of the month busy at work but I found time lunchtime to go and net my fruit bushes there won't be much fruit this year as they are new but i did pick and 4 raspberries and ate whilst struggling with the net and the cat helping menot enough for cream Molly
are you using the can cream, I know not the same as a pot but I think it's meant to be fewer calories or maybe it's because you can add less, I tend not to have cream in the house although last year I did whip and freeze 1 tbsp portions which I may do again. I also picked another courgette and my first handful of french beans
Monna horns and a halo? I read a couple of quotes recently which made me think of you'The devil on my one shoulder has just attacked the angel on my other one and covered her in duct tape, is that a bad thing?' or 'I have a angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other - I'm also deaf in one ear' both seem appropriate when trying to diet ...
Good new family wise, my sister came out of intensive care yesterday and is complaining about being in a geriatric ward so she must be feeling better, I do have sympathy for my BIL as she wouldn't be a good patient when she does get home
Food today
B - Banana and grapes
L - pita bread with boiled egg, smoked salmon andsalad
D - not sure yet but I have some mixed seafood in the freezer so i may make a risotto
S - fibre one popcorn bar, SF jelly and berries
