Old Style Weight Loss 2020 - Part 3

Just reading the news about gastric band surgery in the uk. GPs being incentivised to refer and eligibility from a BMI of 30. Makes me feel very "old style"!A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome we can spare it, yellow socks7 -
TTB I've missed that news. Personally (and I'm not judging anybody else as different strokes for different folks) gastric band or gastric bypass surgery isn't for me it would take some persuading for me to have it done. There are several reasons one being the only time I had surgery the anesthetic made me so sick for hours afterwards and my blood pressure plummeted I have a vague memory of nurses around me getting exited when the bottom number got up to 50, I can't remember what the top number was but I had been in recovery for about an hour by then. It was not unexpected as my mother and my sisters have all had similar issues and worst after surgery (thanks mum). Many years ago I worked with a lady who never came around from the anesthetic after a gastric bypass op dying a week after the op, that would have happened whatever the surgery as it was a reaction to the anesthetic but somehow it did seem worst because of what the surgery was for.
My hairdresser has a gastric band and tells me you can stretch it and put weight back on and he's obviously limited on what he can eat, he has been back a few times and they 'tighten' it again his choice as he prefers it to being overweight. His mother lost 10 stone with a bypass and although she loves the weight lost it seems she hates the restricted eating he says she misses eating a proper meal especially for family dinners, Christmas etc. she was told to stop eating vegetables as they filled her up without giving her enough protein, calories etc and to take vitamin tablets instead as she was losing weight too quickly when she first had it.
I'm sure there are thousands of people out there with the pros and cons of having it done

I dont call window cleaning exercise LittleVoice, I call it torture.
As for gastric band surgery, I know one person who had it done and did indeed lose masses of weight. She then had to have several more operations to deal with the folds of excess skin. She also said that the gastric band didn't stop her wanting to eat, just the ability to do so. It all seems too extreme for me. Obviously if your life is at risk and dieting makes no difference, then your options are limited, but I think I will carry on with the Weight Loss thread, however much I would like to go to sleep tonight and wake up slim and willowy tomorrow.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Good Afternoon All,
Blue Doggy I hope senior doggy's feeling better now and that family stuff is okay. Very well done for a STS with all that going on.
Brambling That cake looks gorgeous!! And well done for only having a little bit of brownie. I had to stop making them as I really can't be trusted not to eat them until I make myself feel ill.
Chloris Well done for the loss. Having an insane week is no fun but it seems to have worked well for weight loss.
ditty I hope you enjoyed your end-of-term party and that you've held on to your loss.
Gingerlily Sorry about the disappointing chocolate and it sounds like you've stuck to varying your menu quite a bit.
LittleVoice Best of luck with the window cleaning, it's a job I despise. Well, I pretty much hate all housework but, unfortunately, I also really like having a clean house.
Molly Best of luck with getting back to the bike riding. I'm glad you like your new swimming costume and hopefully leaving it out will work as an incentive
monnagran Congratulations on the STS. I'm with you on the window cleaning. The only job I like less is mopping floors and I hate that so much that I pay someone to do it for me.
nananibbles Well done on your STS, even with the cereal and brioche accident.
ouraggie Congratulations on the loss, it's always lovely when you go down to the next stone.
roudtuit Well done for the loss, it definitely sounds like you were a bit too restrictive at the start of the week
Sirens Congratulations on the loss
Sue14 Welcome and best of luck
TTB I'm glad Friday wasn't too overly hideous and congratulations for the loss. 70% of your target is a massive achievement!! I hadn't seen the news about gastric bands either but I'm with Brambling and monnagran. As much as I've wondered in the past whether it's something I should go for I think I'd rather be fat than never be able to eat properly again. I've also heard some horror stories about people who've had them and it's gone wrong, as someone with pretty severe emetophobia there's no way I could have something which meant I was likely to be sick all the time.
I have to confess that I didn't weigh in this week. I'm pretty sure it's going to be bad and I know that burying my head in the sand isn't going to do me any good but I can't face it. What I thought were just hormonal grumps don't seem to want to go away so I'm kind of tiptoeing around myself at the moment in the hope that some sort of equilibrium will come back soon.
Best of luck and stay safe everyone xx9 -
Good afternoon, everyone
Congratulations to Everyone who’s lost weight 👏👏👏
Well done to Everyone who’s STS 👍👍👍
Commiserations to Anyone who’s gained 😢
Ttb it’s good to read you sounding bright & chipper
monna I completely agree with you about windows. I always get a George Formby earworm when I do that job
Keep up the good work everyone.
Thanks Izadora for enquiring after Senior Doggy - it’s just extreme old age and tottery frailty (nothing an infusion of Youth wouldn’t cure). He’s happy, especially at meal times and treat times, just can be very tired come evening, then everything goes wobbly.
Trying to get to more grips with the garden, shortage of energy is a great inhibitor.
This is turning into quite a cheesy week (yum!) Yesterday I ate
B : bacon & eggs
L : chicken salad; gooseberries & yogurt
D : melanzane parmigiana (never made it before, will definitely make it again!); strawberries & cream
Today’s food
B : cheese & ham slices
L : burnt omelette with cheese (multitasking + no imagination), salad; gooseberries & yogurtD : sausages with veg (cabbage, carrots if I’ve the energy, frozen mixed veg if not); strawberries & cream
Happy mid-week, folks!“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️

Hi
Well done on the sts nananibbles.
Today’s menu
Breakfast: raspberries, strawberries, Greek yoghurt sprinkled with desiccated coconut. coffee and cream x2
Lunch: veg and pork stir fried in a mustardy creamy sauce.
Afternoon: tea with milk. No biscuit but I did consider one. I think it’s more about something to dunk than the actual biscuit now. I miss that afternoon ritual.
Dinner: cottage cheese and salami salad. Lemon cheesecake topped with a strawberry. Fizzy water.
Laters: milk chocolate.
Take care all.
