    There is a known problem with EDID that can cause the Pi to think that the HDMI device is DVI - video only with no audio.

    EDID info https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_Display_Identification_Data

    Add the following line to config.txt

    hdmi_ignore_edid=0xa5000080

    Then reboot.

    You could try this (I only have a 3b and mine works fine without this)
    HDMI audio should work in both ports, but there may be some config you can do to make it better.

    Add this to the end of the line in cmdline.txt file in /boot (all must be on the same line)

    snd_bcm2835.enable_headphones=1 snd_bcm2835.enable_hdmi=1 snd_bcm2835.enable_compat_alsa=0

    🍺 😎 Still grumpy, and No, Cloudflare I am NOT a robot 🤖BUT my responses are now out of my control they are posted via ChatGPT or the latest AI

    There IS a known HW fault - the company that I bought it from have told me that they are sending me a replacement (upgraded to an 8Gb model and they don't want the old one back)
    How's that for customer service ?

    I find it very hard to believe that this is a hardware fault!

    Are you running this Pi 4 kit straight out of the box.

    Most Pi users download the latest firmware and burn their own micro SD card, your kit could be months out of date!

    You should have checked that you have the latest Raspbian and kernel updates, have you?

    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

    Have you ever invoked this command?

    Do update this thread when you have the replacement.
