Should MSE Reopen The Arms

Even on this thread people are being picky and nasty and arguing the toss back and forth and yet still wondering why the board was closed.

Whats the point of banning someone when they are back within hours on a new ID? 

Just look at the so called newbies the past month

See no matter how much people like to reinvent themselves and deny they were ever here before, their posting style gives them away every time 

This has always been a huge weakness of MSE. Odd that other forums do not seem to have the same issue?

But that is life, people won't have the same opinion. And DT provided a forum in which to discuss those differences.

Nothing that has been argued on here, has been upsetting or worthy of report / removal. So it's not a good example of "why the board was closed".

People were warned.
That warning was ignored.

Digital Spy forums can detect if someone is trying to sign up again using a different username and e-mail, who were banned previously. As someone I know tried again a few months later.

Digital Spy forums can detect if someone is trying to sign up again using a different username and e-mail, who were banned previously. As someone I know tried again a few months later.

All they have to do is change IP address or use a VPN, it's no deterrent.

I'm another DT user that is sorry to see it go, surely the point of a DT was to allow people with different views to express them. The majority of users behaved well and were civil to each other, but unfortunately a very few people were behaving badly posting contentious comments and reporting people for very minor things or even nothing at all making it very difficult for moderators. These are often new users or maybe not and have left people like me who have used forum for over 10 years without something we value and cutting us off from people we have been talking to years. I would just like to say goodbye to all the regular posters I have enjoyed discussing things with over the years and provided me with some interesting information especially lately about virus.

The problem there is that the reporting was heavily abused. It's meant to be used for posts which violate the rules, but for political stuff it was used for posts that the reporter (and all their additional accounts) didn't agree with. That must be a moderation nightmare.

Personally, I don't think it'll be back - the Arms had nothing to do with moneysaving and people talking about random stuff doesn't make them any money. I suspect that within a week most of us will have forgotten about it and be back arguing with each other on DigitalSpy (I've signed up but don't seem to be able to post yet).
