That was the problem though, it wasn't 'us' who ruined it, it was one or two disgruntled banned members coming back time and time again, posting nonsense/offensive/divisive the reads with the sole purpose of forcing MSE's hand into closing the Arms. The worst thing MSE did was post that threat, it was taken as a challenge.

It's not difficult to work out who these people are, it doesn't take long for them to revert to their normal writing style once they're in, halfway through a thread there's that light bulb moment of 'I know who you are'.  One even boasted that as they were using a VPN there was nothing MSE could do to stop them. It was sabotage pure and simple and the same disrupters will now follow MSE members over to attempt to do the same on Digital Spy. Hopefully DS has more robust protocols.
The forum went downhill when the right wingers took over.  Quite a few were aggressive, espcially to new posters, and discussion disappeared.  As befits the new UK, some were quite happy to post racist stuff which was poorly moderated.   The small number of people who kept returning week after week to post offensive one liners didn't help.  I have at least 5 names in my ignore list that are all the same person posting the same drivel.

Well, you see, I think that just the opposite is the case, and that it is the left wingers who caused the problems, as in, for example, the 'clueless' poster. And from what I've seen, it is the left wingers who kept returning, and posting the same 'drivel'.
As I already said once, too much of this and the similar threads will act against persuading MSE to reconsider this at a suitable time in the future.

Don't post here blaming other people, while simultaneously demonstrating an example of what the problem has been. MSE can't be bothered to referee this, and they've said so more than once.
"Don't post here blaming other people" - while you're doing what exactly?
Why are you taking @Sapphire to task here and not @Algorfa who made the first allegation?
It wouldn't be the result of your own bias, would it?

It is very unfair to yourself blame one person when that person was responding to a confrontational post - and that is what the problem has been: posters ...
Perhaps you didn't notice, but since the forum software changed, quotes are automatically nested, unless someone composing a new post edits to remove some of the previous material.
Are you denying that you're blaming other people after saying yourself "Don't post here blaming other people"?
Automatic nesting has nothing to do with that.

It's interesting that you chose to ignore the crux of my response which was purposely removed from what you did quote from me: "that is what the problem has been: posters jumping on an opportunity to blindly follow their bias just like there while the poster doing the provoking no doubt chuckles quietly at their success in getting the emotional responses they wanted. .... It's a great example of why the "thanks" button was removed too with the cliques becoming very obvious."

I have no desire to prolong any forum feud but many of the posts in this particular thread are a great example of just why the Arms & DT was removed.
I will leave you all to carry on with this; when MSE say the closure will be permanent perhaps those unhappy with the decision can look at threads like this and understand why it was closed.

Actually the bit you put in bold isn't interesting, or not to me, and that's why I omitted that part.

I've made far fewer comments in this thread than some, and felt uneasy about even those few posts.

There is a phrase, attributed to some football manager about one of his players, that he could start a fight in any empty room. Clearly this room has been emptying for quite some time now.

In another part of my life I've joked that you can tell what the weather was like at certain times by the amount of arguing going on, when it's good people are happier. Maybe the virus and the background stress associated with it, even amongst those who haven't had it or seen it affect people close to them, is similar.

I would not join the new board and am glad that the he/she poster that was here 7x7, 24/7, his/her life actually was the MSE discussion forums has joined the new place and they are rarely here now. This is all good for the MSE forums as posters like that just created non existent problems.  I can post quiet a bit on the forums and waste a lot of my time arguing with clowns that think they know it all. I've said it on this thread about my 3mobile post and the first response was by a joker. I rebuked the joker as the thread was a serious one where real people can get defrauded of everything they own.

Not just MSE but every forum I've been on you have your little cliques where people don't work, never worked, work from home or HQ and spend too much time trying to score points and when you get the better of them IE point out their mistake/s, they take it personally and the PM's start lying to others with too much time on their hnads who then join in to defend the indefensible. Thankfully there are not a lot of them these days and this recent action by MSE will stop these time wasters posting here so people can then raise genuine concerns, alerts, questions via threads with a lot less fear of being mocked or hypocritical posts.

I read last night several threads and two stick in my mins. One was about claiming benefits and working along with trying to get a couicl property, the rubbish that was posted at by some that had been here for a while and the OP was accused of being X, Y, Z etc.
The other thread was by someone who must have worked hard all of their lives like some of here and they were asking about how to safeguard some assets at least to pass on to their grandchildren, children etc as they felt they'd paid more than enough tax at every stag. The abuse, p taking hypocritical stance by those that may never had a penny to their name or managing hand to moth was incredible.

Before I continue with my online shopping I must mention a thread where the OP talked about an nice holiday in the UK but it was expensive with " ? number of kids." the indirect p taking, the condescending, the hypocritical posts was incredible but as soon as the OP hit back, pals came to support the silly posts and yes, the OP was then claimed to be an ex poster and the usual he/she was X, Y, Z, etc.
I'm glad that a couple of posters that spent their lives on MSE may have moved on to trash another forum.

Oh, you are right!  Rather remiss, similar names and I misread it.  Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.  Just shows that they post similar stuff though.

All I have to say to this is pot and kettle.

All I have to say is - what more proof of the cliques in here do you need?

Keep it shut MSE and give yourselves the chance to attract new members that are interested in helping others to save money but who wouldn't join before because of the nastiness & trolling which you'd earned quite the reputation for.

Thank you. TBH, intially, for a mo I was taken aback but then the other brain cells kicked in and the rest is history.
MSE is going to be a lot better and a lot busier IMO when even more poster raise questions, alerts, etc and not fear being attacked, mocked, etc. Therefore, when most of us search Goolge, etc for answer, they will come here to read only for info and may join up and join in.

    Thanks Reliability & MSE.

Feeling dejected right now. Many years hanging around on the finance pages pointing people in the right direction for no reward  then a scroll down to the arms for a laugh . I am big enough to ignore the snow flakes but it appears they have won. So I am out. If the old regulars in the arms do find a new home please let me know.
    Regards
