Good morning everyone.
Yesterday at lunchtime, we tackled A$da. No queue, but that was because people were waltzing in and out as if it were pre-Lockdown. Nobody paying any attention to the one-way system or social distancing. (Really madam, is it necessary to bring all five of your teenagers shopping with you?). Oh and could someone please do a public information film about how to wear a facemask? (They don’t work if they aren’t covering your nostrils as well as your mouth.) As you can tell, I was getting more and more wound up.
We could have done a much larger shop but, instead, stuck to the things we only buy in A$da because they’re the best price: Yeo Valley Yoghurts, Thatcher’s Gold cider (10 x 440ml for £8) and some veg. Something is going between A$da and Yeo Valley; they normally sell individual 450ml tubs for £1, including the honey-flavoured Greek-style yoghurt, whereas Mr T sells them for a minimum of £1.50. This time, the price on the shelf said £1.25 but, when we got to the checkout we were charged 63p a tub! They were all well in date, too. DH promptly decided to go back for more. (I refused and waited at the car.). Anyway, a total of £26.19 spent.
When we got home, I cleared some £2 coins, coppers and 5p’s out of the Grocery Challenge purse. £4.16 extracted, to be added to the Running Away Fund. Once that’s factored in as a “spend”, our total Grocery Challenge spend for July stands at £85.90/£120, leaving £34.10 for the rest of the month.
We still have to go to MrT’s to get the majority of the shopping list: ground cumin, noodles, fresh skimmed milk, etc, but I’ll do that at silly-o’clock in the morning, probably on Tuesday or Wednesday. (Our big MrT’s opens at 6am now.)

Definitely going to catch up on the thread later, as i never seem to get chance.
Ive spent a mammoth £318.49 already, but just had a massive shop and a bulk order of gluten free flours come to do baking ( as I like this flour better than Doves Farm).
This realistically means i have money for one online shop and an order of gf bread, with maybe leeway for some smaller shops.
I am finding the costs since the whole coronavirus outbreak quite a struggle. Id just got the GC amount right down after years of trying for it to be now skyhigh.
I don't know how else to cut corners. I mealplan, and i dont buy loads of fancy or nice things. I dont drink or eat out. I bring leftover foods home from work and i use up all food. Cant really buy the cheapest brand of everything, as cant really shop around unless i shop online. Maybe itll reduce once its two of us again

Have been on holiday for a week so haven't posted. Not much shopping done so now have
£173.62 left/£250 for the month
Not kept track of the bulk fund but have spent some but not all of it and I certainly haven't been keeping track of NSDs! So not tracking either this month.

No other ferry that I know of - the alternative is to fly from Sydney. Faster but more expensive and we'd lose the extra packing space of both our cars. Meh. We'll see....
In other news, I've now updated our July spends. Pretty much on track I think. Now to see how well I balance getting rid of remaining food but not being so creative that nobody will eat it! Lol.March 2020 grocery challenge $921.76/$500AU
