Went to lidl, total now:
£401.07/£800
Happy with that and definitely looking to come in under. 2 more weeks to go and at current average should be about £600 for the month 🤞 would be best in a while if I can keep it there.
Forgot to look at meal plan before going some might need a few specifics but hopefully not too much.
Also now have a breadmaker so hoping to cut this cost a fair bit as we do like our bread 😀August Grocery Challenge £161.27/£400.004 -
Calling it quits now, new month starts on Monday, budget £300 again. Change from this month has went into savings so i can’t touch it.£13 under budget for July.6

I've had to do an order for gf bread as didn't realise how low my stocks had gotten; on my last two packs of four Pitta breads (which is mainly what I use for sandwiches and burger buns etc). So that and a loaf of bread for my two DDs and GD to add to total.
I've also lost my little book I tally everything in, but thankfully updated my sig on here a few days ago. Might have to get a new notepad or write in my old unused 2020 diary.
Decided against a shop at Morrison's for milk til new GC month starts on 26th. We will just get it from Lidl til then, even if a pain.

Not doing too bad this month. Just got back from Aldee and spent £39. Had to buy extra as my son has finished school today for 7.5 weeks. He always seems to have a growth spurt in the holidays so is always ravenous. I’ve hidden a lot of stuff, just need to remember where it all is! So far have spent £159.95 out of my budget but a shop next weekend should see us through to payday.

Oooer, £80 spent at the market this morning, on meat, fish, cheese, olives & hummous, fruit & veg, which should do us for the week. The plot has been slightly lost in that DS2's wedding plans have come slightly adrift; too many unknowns & potential pitfalls attached to the projected France trip, so they've cancelled. The actual legal bit was always happening here before they went; now we need to inflate that to as much of a wedding celebration as can be had in these strange times! They'd paid out half the money for the French venue & won't be getting a penny back, but as they said, it's better than all the money & not being able to go at the last minute, or guests losing their jobs if they had to quarantine on return. So we're now holding lots of "planning meetings" in the evenings, which generally involves feeding them too...
A wonderful friend has offered the use of her large & rather lovely garden, and the Govt. have today changed the allowances so that there could be 30 guests at the reception (the registry office is currently limited to 16 though) so it might yet be possible to help them have a smashing day to remember on a tight budget. The DDs (also bridesmaids) have already offered to do bunting, lighting & cakes (eat your heart out, Bake-Off!) & the groom, his elder brother & best man were all part of a pretty decent band once, so live music's definitely a possibility & equipment's no problem as DS1 is now a successful musician/composer. Fingers crossed; it's going to be a wild ride for the next few weeks!Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)7 -
@thriftwizard what wonderful plans for their wedding!
I have been shopping a few times since I last updated. Remind me never to take my 14 year old DD again! Vegan cream cheese, chocolate spread, posh crisps and more were bought! We are very lucky to live in a beautiful small town with a number of small independent health food and eco shops so we have been trying to support these in these difficult times. We have also been to lldl and salnsbuys and ordered loo rolls from Who Gives A Crap. Meaning a total of £368.62/550 so I am still on target. With school now finished I'm going to check through all the cupboards, freezers and fridge to reverse meal plan and hopefully fill the freezer with hm ready meals for September too. I'm going to try to clean up my diet too with less processed junk and snacks. X

I'm trying to fill my freezer with batch cooking for August onwards. Batch of savoury beef mince portioned and frozen a couple of days ago. Today a veggie chilli in the SC which has just finished cooking. Once cooled that too will be portioned and frozen - it's very full and I think there will be about 10 portions going into the freezer.
Planning on also making a chickpea and butternut squash curry to freeze but that will only be a couple of portions as it's the piece of squash left from chopping for the veggie chilli this morning. Will use a tin of chickpeas rather than soaking dried tonight and cooking in the morning.

Picked up the milk from L1dl, aswell as fruit juice, d.f. yoghurt, gherkins, cucumber and some bits for DD1 and GD tea. Also, went to Sainsberrys for a few bits before work as i was so hungry, despite having breakfast. I had nothing in to take for snacks, for the journey there. So crisps bought, for the week, and for DD2 for tonight and malt loaf for GD.
This leaves me with just over a tenner, which is to include DD1's birthday on Monday and another week to go.
Realistically, don't think i will be on or close to the budgetGC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 July £89.90/£150 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. Went to Tesco last night for the weekly shop. I don’t normally shop there but DH wanted to look for a new pair of jeans. Picked up a large bottle of laundry liquid from the bulk buys budget and dropped lucky with the YS bread ending up with a large granary stick, 64 portions of rolls, pitta, bagels and a pack of crumpets for £2
I never usually get such bargains.
I forgot decaf tea so will pick some up at Liddell today.
Not much left in the budget for the last week of the month but I am not intending to buy anything but milk, fat free yogurt, ham and fruit as the freezers are full.
