That redundancy news seems to have landed quite suddenly. I hope you’re okay with it? Just a few suggestions:
- Get your CV updated now, whist still in work and you can remember what you are doing.
- Run it through an AI before an interview with the job description - some of the output is utter nonsense 😉 but some of it is genuinely creative and stitches things together that you or I wouldn’t think of 😊
- Ask colleagues and bosses if they will be referees for you whilst they are still around. Get their contact details.
- Get your CV up on CV L1brary and change the title on it each week so it looks new to the site and you come top on the search by recruiters each week.
- Have a look at the interview questions set on M0nster website and practice some answers. You may be on top of all of this ^^ but you said you feeling a bit vague, so just sharing what I do. (4 redundancies / suddenly ended jobs for me so far!)
❤️ for your cat still going 😊
Bravo on the mobiles cost reduction 👏 Yaay for the food win and glad to hear you’re getting your cooking mojo back 😊
Getting those tiles down will be a real quality of life uplift 😊🤩
I’m not sure how old you are, but the local U3A to me accept members after the age of 50 (I used to think it was retirement age only) and I got into really cheap Tai Chi classes that way when last looking for a job 😊

I'm not 50 but I am thinking about my 50th birthday party!
I've never had a CV. I worked for councils (still do occasionally) so just filled in their application forms. Where I work now was a one page online form then a 20 minute chat. I did try and write a CV before I got my present job but gave up. I've got qualifications but very intermittent work history and absolutely zero confidence or self esteem. This is lifelong and affects a strange mixture of things - I've driven for 30 years but can't drive on motorways. I can chat happily in various different languages but stammer and freeze in English. I really can't cope with arguments or pressure at all so my present job was ideal. I wouldn't mind shift work and working until 2 or 3am but I couldn't have a job starting at say 6am because sometimes I am unable to go to sleep until 5! I get stressed by EVERYTHING so need a job where you don't have to think about it in-between shifts.
I'm sure my manager would write a reference. He's been excellent. I've also got a referee from my last job (teaching assistant).
Thank you for your suggestions.2 -

British Gas - £120.20
Eon - £63.60
A lot of shuffling of jobs at work and 3 people taking redundancies after many decades. I've been moved sideways (metaphorically and literally 5 metres into a different room!) Same pay but not quite such helpful hours.
Been interrupted, will edit later.

New job starts next weekend. It has been quite stressful as the difficult colleague has been made redundant (as have many others) but we all have to keep working together until the end.
I am vaguely looking for something else. My hours were great before (early evenings so I had the day free to care for son2, plus a Sunday morning). Now they've moved to alternate Saturdays and Sundays, which is annoying for the football, plus the weekday shifts have changed to 12.30 - 5.30 which disrupts the whole day!
Son2 has started an online IT course which is daily for 8 weeks. I hadn't really thought that he had been taught one to one or had his own TA after he was 8. So I've been doing a lot of note taking and a lot of persuading to sit down.
I've changed banks again for the free £175!
I want to put £1000 away for a replacement car (mine is 22) then start saving for some electrical repairs.1 -
Eon is paid off and they've automatically decreased the direct debit to £84.22. This will save £48.06 per month.
New rejigged job (same company) is absolutely awful. I'm looking for something else daily and a fantastic job has been advertised in the field in which I am qualified. I actually did a similar job for 10 years in the past. I need to get all the information together, write a CV etc.
If I don't get it, I shall ask for voluntary work there and try to get back in to that sort of work. I've signed up for a one day online training course that covers part of the job, to refresh my memory!
2 days left of son2's online IT course! He has had a distinction in all 7 assignments and has an interview tomorrow. He's asked for the questions in advance (he's autistic).
We need to get the £65 Amazon vouchers that were part of our new phone deals. I might buy a strimmer.
Liking Lloyds new account and we've downloaded the free cinema tickets.

British Gas has been paid off now and the monthly bill has reduced from £103.64 to £32.79. A nice £70 per month saved.
Balance is £2100 but I will have to pay the tiler next week. One room at a time!
I applied for the lovely job and they telephoned back within 5 minutes, to ask if I have a driving licence. I do, so am waiting to hear if I have an interview. It took hours (12 hours or more) to make a CV as I've never had one before. I sneaked to have a look round the site twice.
Son2 didn't get the apprenticeship but has applied for another and also for a job.
My job is appalling, but I will find something else and try not to think about it in the meantime.
Doing another bank switch today (third this year). To TSB, for money for switching plus a hotel voucher. We can use that if we watch our football team away match somewhere distant.
Planning my 50th birthday party. It'll be tea, cake, chess and sitting in the garden.
Trying to do lots of gardening and DIY before then. Removed another floor (hence tiler coming), bought cheap edging from Bradfords which I put along the garden borders and have just filled rogue dart holes in the walls...1 -
P.S The cat is still going.1

50th birthday was fine but I wouldn't host that many people again! I hardly got round everyone.
The cat is still going.
No new jobs for son 2 or me yet.
Thought I had actually got lucky in a relationship... until yesterday when he said I shouldn't tell my friends because they are a "toxic group". I can't think of many less toxic women. No one will be surprised to hear that he is married with a child. (Well, I was surprised). Just feel numb and sick today. I'm putting it here as I don't want to discuss it with anyone in real life.
Anyway, I wanted to get on with a few things today (after blocking him on everything in the world) so I walked into town (4.5 miles) and went round the charity shops and bought 2 tops. I then took son2 to Sainsburys and we saw the new manager of our football team in the cafe so I said hello and good luck to him! Saw 2 footballers in store.
Doing some finances this afternoon:
New house insurance: £112.97 with £34 Quidco cashback. Paid it in one go.
Son2 has got Family Fund money which will cover the cost of his season ticket.
I have changed banks to TSB which (I think) is a £100 golden hello then £100 in hotel vouchers. I can't make the online banking work so will have to have a look at that. It has been too hot to concentrate!1
