My mortgage clobbering post

Thank you. Son1 is up and hacking his beard off with the hair trimmer as he left his shaver at work. I’m fine (2 jabs) but son2 hasn’t had a jab yet so we’re just waiting for him to get ill...
I wanted to pay the mortgage off by Halloween but it might be earlier!1 -
5 days from the very first sign of coronavirus - a very slightly sore throat that he thought was from sleeping in a tent - and son1 is completely recovered.
He had 3 days of being too hot or feeling cold, a nasty cough and a headache plus no taste or smell. The smell and taste returned this morning. He was in bed most of the 2 worst days.
We have also both tested negative on the home LF tests today (but will of course isolate for the full 10 days).
So not too bad but he is 20, slim and an outdoor instructor AND he has had his first vaccination. You wouldn’t want that cough if you were old or in any way unfit. I’ve been ok so far with my 2 vaccinations.
Just waiting to see if son2 gets it. His first vaccination was booked for tomorrow but we will have to postpone for now.
I’d love to throw everything at the mortgage but am aware the car MOT is at the start of September. It needs a new clutch (it needed one when I bought it, a year ago!) but I shall carry on nursing it for now. My car is now 18. Son1’s car is 20!
I have used the last ever Family Fund payment for son2 to watch Man Utd again in December, plus stay in a hotel overnight. We did this 2 years ago and I was surprised how much he enjoyed the Christmas market. We stopped going to Birmingham Christmas market as it is just too big and busy. Manchester’s is spread out over lots of different areas so each one is more navigable. FF had to go through a booking agent to get the tickets for the football so they include all sorts of flashy things like access to a lounge area, a meal before and a cup of tea at half time!1 -
Well done on persevering and winning despite many obstacles.
Cheering you on to MFDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

7 days after son1’s return home and son2 and I still have no symptoms. Hoping we will stay well as our 10 days in isolation ends on Saturday and it would be good for son2 to be able to do a few things before starting back at college.4
