And the vast majority of those results are articles from organisations like the AA telling people what to do if THEY put too much oil in their car.
I know you've never worked in a garage Fred and your sum total of knowledge comes from people doing Youtube videos on their driveway but in the garage I worked in we used either jugs where we'd put in what the car's capacity was or we'd use hose feed delivery systems where you'd put in on a digital display the amount you wanted in. Also unlike you Fred a mechanic would check the dipstick once they'd put the oil in.

Spot on! Exactly what happened in the garage where I was workshop manager. Too many people in the Motoring Forum have little or no real knowledge of the subject. I retired from the trade some years ago and things have of course moved on, so I only comment if I know what I'm actually talking about.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Whereas there's 600x (~300m) as many results for "garage excellent service", and 300x (~147m) as many for "garage set fire to my car". There's even 5x (2.32m) as many for "garage ate hamster" - the first result of which refers back to Nostradamus.

Would you accept that if you took a car to a garage for an oil and filter change, it would be more likely than not that the oil will be filled to the correct level? This means somewhere between the minimum and maximum level on the dipstick.

    Yes or no answer please.

It is hardly likely that even with 50p a litre fleet oil, they would overfill it to the point of hydraulicing when they are trying to maximise profit. ;)
How did it get away from the garage if it were that overfull anyway?

I have to say, I've never seen a diesel hydraulic itself, unless someone drove it through water, and that usually goes from the top down, not the sump up.  More usual with overfilling from diesel getting to the sump is for it to run away on the diesel & oil mix and put a rod through the side.

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Nobody is saying that.  Depressingly predictably you are suggesting it is something that is a regular occurance, which you of course cannot evidence, as per normal

It's clearly very regular, going by HALF A MILLION google results.

About a fifth as regular as garages eating hamsters, by the same metric.

    No it doesn't.
If you google "garage overfilled oil" (in inverted commas), it comes back with 64 results. If however, you google garage overfilled oil (without the commas) then you get 497,000 hits as the results will include any website with those 3 words in irrespective of where on that website they appear.

497,000 sounds like a lot but if you Google Elvis is alive, it gives 17,400,000 hits so going by your earlier post, Elvis must really still be alive cos Google says so.
