I probably spend no more than 20€ a month when it's just me and my daughter and it goes up to maybe 40€ a month when OH is back (works away for weeks at a time)0

I've never analysed how much I spend on meat per month. I get a some lamb from a local farmer every now and then. We don't eat meat every day, but that seemed like quite a long list for a month in the first post.
I have a feeling I'm going to turn into a 'sausage' bore, as I have just won a mincer for the old kenwood I got off freecycle. I'm funny about sausages and what might be in them! Would rather have one really nice sausage than several naff ones."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

hi all you osers, ive been thinking the last few days about my meal planning, budgeting, growing more etc, and started to think about the amount of meat we eat. there is 6 of us (2 adults 4 kids between 2 and 10) we are all meat eaters and probably have meat with most evening meals, but not big amounts, (a med chicken will normally do 3 meals ) i try to stretch meat as far as i can, and pad out where poss with veg/lentils/oats etc without compramising the taste, but still if you add up roughly the amount of meat you eat over a year its alot (joint every sunday, mince/chic breats etc in week) the reason for me thinking about this is i try to keep a good store of food, ie i buy 2 x 25kg of spuds from farm every couple of months, i have a good store cupboard with flour/sugar/lentils/tins etc and i would like to stock up on meat in my freezer.
so my question is how much meat (all you meaters) do you eat (or buy for your family) per week to last a week, are you old style in the way you buy one joint for sunday lunch and the left overs have to last the rest of the week? One day I will live in a cabin in the woods0 -
As a family of 3, eating meat 6 out of 7 days a week I spend £60 at the butchers every 8 weeks!
And I am thinking of lowering that only because thanks to OS I am not eating more then 3/4 of what I buy.
I find buying every 8 weeks instead of every 4 means I can have more choice and veriety, otherwise I would buy chicken 1 month, Beef the next!
We have a roast only 2 or 3 times in 8 weeks though, and opt so more longer prep/cooking time meals on Sundays (nice stews, gulash, lasagna's etc etc)
I would say £80 would cover the cost of my meat for 8 weeks if I ate a Roast once a week!We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
I don't tend to buy meat; if I do it's cheap sausages or cheap mince (usually made into chilli). I'm a right wuss about touching raw meat and it grosses me out to touch it, I also want to chuck at the thought of fat/bone/skin/gristle, meaning I can really only cook meat I don't have to touch at all, meat that doesn't need dissecting once cooked.... and then I see the price of a single chicken breast and am too tight to spend so much on so little.0

there are two meat eaters in my house, we usually have 1 packet of mince,i whole chicken around some pepperami
we tend to eat more fish though like mackeral and tuna though
we do buy more quorn mince than real meat though0 -
Hi betterlife,
We usually do a roast on Sunday in the winter months and manage to make it stretch for at least a second day and/or for soup and a pud night.
My lot are committed carnivores, but have accepted over time that I'll serve two to three veggie (or almost veggie) meals each week and are now quite receptive to new recipes...soup, quiche, omelettes, potato/pasta bakes etc. We probably have meat based meals four or five times a week. If you want to cut back on spending, consider using cheaper cuts of meat.
