Firstly, you won't (or don't have to) pay NI as long as you're earning < £6035, which I don't think anybody does on here.

Secondly, I don't think most MSers do it just for the money, it's mostly to do with what you get out of it, such as the odd 'free' meal or cinema trip (which are becoming less common now!).

SO - yes, it's a great second income but if you can spare a regular 2 nights a week, it's much more worthwhile you getting a p/t job if you need the money, I would say.

Thanks for replies! I went with the 'in for a penny' attitude! I shall nervously await response from bare!

Another question though.............I joined grassroots, but on my homepage there are no assignments listed in my area and there hasn't been since I signed up two weeks ago. Is this normal? Or is it that they are not listed because I need to do something? I have ticked that I am available all the time in the box thing.

    Hi guys,

Grassroots are one of the best assignments you will ever get out there. They pay best rates in the market but the catch is you need to be online 24 hours of the day.

There jobs are very random they come and go very quickly. You will 1 assignment if you are lucky in 1 week. But because there are so many shoppers chances are that you will miss the job.

As on average any job posted by grass roots on their website gets taken by a shopper in less than 2 min.

So its difficult but when you will get some job, it definately worth it.

    thanks

Could someone give me some tax advice please...

I started MSing in Feb, and some of the work I did in March wasn't paid until we were in the new tax year. I've just bought QuickBooks, and for the previous tax year it tells me I'm £X in the red (since I hadn't yet been paid as of 6 April).

So is that the correct way to sort out my tax - ie my expenses for March jobs go in the 07/08 tax yr, and the payment for those jobs would fall in the 08/09 tax year?

    TIA :)

P.S. Any tips for QuickBooks would be v useful - I'm still getting used to it!

I'm a QuickBooks professional advisor; PM me if you need to! :D

Also, the income should be included when it was earned, not when they paid you.

And sorry to be so naive,ok so if I earn less than £6035 I pay no NI. Is that only for MS income? or they will also add my main income?

Secondly is it a lot of hassle to go down the self employed route? and you are taxed a lot??? Do I need an accountant to manage all this?? not sure I will earn that much from MS anyways and as you said it is more for what I can get from it.

Your employment income is known as class II and your self employment is known as class IV so you get the allowance twice (you also get the employment allowance for every employment you have) - so your NI for your job will stay the same and you'll (most likely) not pay any from MSing.

Secondly is it a lot of hassle to go down the self employed route? Not really although if you plan to do only a few jobs, I wouldn't bother doing them and save yourself the (small) effort in registering! and you are taxed a lot??? You'll be taxed at your normal rates - read my OP on this thread for more info Do I need an accountant to manage all this?? Me :D I'm here for free! It's dead easy though so no, you won't need to rely on an accountant for this kind of work. not sure I will earn that much from MS anyways and as you said it is more for what I can get from it.

    Hope these help! :D

Does anyone work for The Mystery Dining Co. I've been rejected twice now. They seem to have work in my area. Last application, I corrected their spelling of the Italian Cafe and thought they might have rejected me for being too pedantic, but this time, I didn't say anything contentious. Any clues? Thanks:rolleyes:
