Thanks for the quick reply. Would I be better adjusting my mileage rate so that I make neither a profit or loss when I come to do my tax return. Presumably, as long as I don't go over 40p per mile, this shouldn't be a problem (or is this dodgy as well?)

Sorry for the questions but have only done 1 job and have never been self-employed before!

I agree with Timne, that it would look funny to adjust your mileage on that one job. As you're only reporting an overall expenditure total on the tax return and an overall income then these sort of jobs will reduce your expenditure total, meaning you have less tax to pay :j These are the ones I like!

My expenses are just under £690 and my income £735, so tax on £45 isn't going to be too bad for the year.
  • Quick tax question here - If a company pays you 20p per mile for mileage can you also claim back 40p per mile from the tax man ?? Im assuming not.

A new company that i dont think has been mentioned before is Site Reports Ltd http://www.fivelands.info/ (Website gives details of types of jobs and rates of pay) Ive been working for them for about 2 weeks now and seems to be good so far. Havent been paid yet tho. You are assigned a specific area and you get first refusal on all the jobs in your area so no fighting over them. The work ive been doing so far are mystery phone calls, and photographing advertising on telephone kiosks.

 in advance for the answer to my question.

    Hi,

Just got into MS and have joined about 5 companys and even informed them all of this and they all stated that as I was self employed it would not affect me doing assignments which I think is fair of them.

Did my first RE job which was quite easy and initially got 1 point and the probie sign was still on.Then without warning I was upto 13 points and no probie sign and access to about 100 jobs!!!

How do they allocate points and do they tell you if they deduct points?

Im quite lucky that my normal job allows me to drive around so pick and choose jobs where I know I will be.I have noticed that the pay and expenses vary a hell of alot between the companies.

As a new commer to all of this I must say that reading the threads has helped a hell of a lot.I have contacted the taxman and told them of my new side line and have been sent details of a free tax clinc for newly self employed people so it does pay to do things right for a change.

Happy shopping to you all and I look forward to all your threads.

By the way doing my first Piazza job Friday any tips.

    All the best

Good idea Leila. I'll give it a shot. If they say I did the visit wrong, fine. I won't argue about it.

I remember someone asking about the maximum premium payments people had received for urgent jobs. Had 2 phone calls from GAP this afternoon needing a burger shop in town, managed to get 5 time the usual burger FEE for doing it :) also on Gfk I did a college canteen for just over 3 times the usual fee + a bit extra :p

Anyone else care to share? :p
