Just had this email following the lack of a receipt:
    Dearest Rob
Thank you for completing the above Golden Arches assignment.
Unfortunately, your results indicate that you have not obtained a receipt. It is imperative that if a receipt is not offered, that you ask for one, and ensure that you have received it before leaving the site.
Therefore, it has been deemed invalid and there will be no payment for this assignment.
Please thoroughly read all paperwork before commencing an assignment.
    Kind regards,
    Marie-Louise

Do you regularly do assignments for GAPbuster?

(They don't get a very good write up in this thread!)

I've done three for them, I thought getting away with one non-receipt would be o.k especially if they have access to CCTV to confirm car registration and I could give them further details on those who served me, but alas no response even when I called immediatly after the job on Saturday to tell them.

best thing with gap is do them on the same day as other jobs then you wont be so out of pocket.

In the past, maybe mystery shoppers have ripped the agencies off by doing reports by "remote radar".

Presumably no receipt means the restaurant won't pay gap, so the whole report is a loser for them as well as you. Though they can afford to take the loss a lot easier.

You cannot grumble too much if you didn't do what they told you to.

And you now have first hand experience of their attitude - might save you even more hassle in the future.

I must admit, when I used to do jobs for them (before being "released"?) I had the odd occasion where I didn't get a receipt (or similar) and they said they would let me off on that occasion, which is big of them because it was never my fault, i.e. the staff wouldn't fill out recommendation pad etc etc. I evenhad one stupid pizza place one where they said I had ordered bacon (which wasn't allowed) and I told them I ordered ham, the staff had put it through wrong. They very nearly didn't pay me, which really would have infuriated me, but I thankfully perservered!!!
I agree that GAP jobs are not worth doing on their own, only in conjunction with others, unless you can get "premium" or extra fees. Although that issue is very comical when their staff offer an extra £2 to travel about a 30 mile round-trip haha

Leaving aside the ethical/moral issues for a mo.

My understanding of the legal aspect of this is that provided the recording is for your personal use, you are not breaking the law. If you wish to pass the recording on to a third party you must obtain the permission of the person who you have recorded.

The upside of recording an assignment is that if somebody challenges your report, you have the proof. The recorded person should have no objection to the recording being made available to his/her company unless it exposes their lies.

    Just my 2p worth.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... hadn't actually thought of any legal issues. Mainly because the first MS either me or my bf did was for Bare and he got sent a dictaphone? I guess we assumed from that that the staff are told that they might be recorded as part of a shop? This particular case was because it was for a finanical institution and a recording was required due to the amount of information the client required and in how much detail.

I've been recording the ones that I've done so far where I've needed to remember a lot of information as my memory is appalling and I'll never get a thing down accurately otherwise! Will definitely keep doing these, but only for personal use and will bear in mind what has been said before considering sending the recording to an MS company (if ever requested)... I agree with people who have said that the staff should have been told that they were being MS'd anyway and if I don't give the recording to anyway and use it for reference only then I think it's ok.

    xx

It wasn't too much hassle for me anyway thankfully, though I gave the store a glowing feedback which I guess they'll still pass on!

The questionnaires and briefing notes are usually fairly comprehensive and they give you a reminder sheet which you can fold up and put in your pocket. I usually refer to this when I'm doing the toilet check to make sure I haven't missed anything. I've done a few of these and always been paid so you should be fine. Good luck. :)
