Can anyone give me some tax advice? I need to register as self-employed cos of MS - what do I put for my business name and how do I pay for the tax? Do I need to keep a percentage back from my MS money and pay that when the taxman comes knocking, or does the extra tax come out of my "normal" job?...

You usually pay any tax from self employment separately to your paye.

You can call your business anything you want to - but you don't need a trading name. Just declare your self employed profits.

And note you don't pay tax on your MS money, only on any profit you might make out of the venture.

WHich won't be much if you keep an accurate record of all your business/travel/admin/equipment expenses.

I don't know if this is allowed, or if i'm in the right place but if not then please delete!

I am just filling in the forms to join retail eyes and there's a bit about who refered you where the referer gets some kind of fee
Seeing it was this website and Martin who refered me (wonder if he has a retail eyes account?!) I thought I'd give someone the chance to be my referer, it seems silly to waste the opportunity and I feel someone on here should get the fee as you've all been so helpful with the info.

PM me so I can add the details.

Hope this isn't against any rules, i'm not advertising (or at least I don't think it counts as advertising?) and, as this site is all about ways to saev/make money it seems right to post this, however, as I said, if this isn't allowed please accept my apologies and delete!

Does anyone think Gap will add any more shops on tonight? Not sure what their cut off point is? There seem to be various views about them putting them on from Australia, but they'd be ahead of us in time, so not sure that always holds true.

However, petrol ones seem to go on on an evening.

I'm waiting for bookies (seeing as RE won't let women do them  ) and the stamp shops that haven't been on for ages.

Did my first shop for a golden arches store earlier, drive-thru. I was thrown a bit when presented with a speaker/visual board which I've never experienced and hastily did my timings. However they are still fairly exact.

However two problems. Firstly the time I recorded arrival in the queue was 5.24pm and the receipt states the transaction took place at 5.23 and 27 seconds, therefore will I be penelised for going by my watch?

Also I didn't get nametags, it appeared both weren;t wearing them but because the window was high and open only slightly I had problems seeing both servers but worried I'll get penelised for this...

    Hi

I have been a regular shopper with Gapbuster for a couple of years now.

Today received an e-mail saying that I am no longer a chicken shop shopper and they have cancelled two supermarket assignments I had for tomorrow without explanation. Additionally the golden arches assignments have disappeared from the client list.

Would be grateful to hear from anyone who has experienced similar issues or who could provide an explanation.

Have contacted them but I know they are rubbish at replying. Thanks

Don't worry, you are not alone.

I have been with GAP for 8 years now and have never been restricted or blocked from anything, until recently. A lot of the companies I work for, require indepth reports (you get a lot better fee for these) and when doing a coffee shop job, I noticed the cleaning cupboard was open and there was an open bottle of bleach in there, I commented on this in my report and promptly got myself sacked from that client for "giving far too much information on a matter which gave the store a negative report" and "the cleaning cupboard being open was not part of the questionnaire, so I should have ignored it.".

I suppose I only had myself to blame, I am used to working for companies who want a true reflection of the visit.

I got another 2 e-mails from them this morning, one dispensing of my servicees for the corner shops (like a birdie) and the computer shop, apparently they don't want me doing the corner shops as I have let them down recently................errr, the shop was closed down  and I am not to do the computer ones as I used to work there, appparently  , now, as far as I am aware, I have never worked there in my life, but the way a Manager got out of a bad report was to tell GAP I was a disgruntled ex employee.

TBH, I don't do that much Mystery Shopping for them at all, mainly auditing, I have 25 petrol audits to do this month, in one months pay, that will give me almost treble what I would get doing 3 months m/sing. :T

Can anyone tell me about the IMS open days? anyone going to one in the next month?

Is this the Stuck For Staff one in Manchester ??

If so, I went to the one in London and it was very interesting, there were a lot of agencies there doing all kinds of field work including promotional, taster sessions, leafleting, merchandising, auditing, sales promotions and sales work. Some of them do Mystery Shopping, but along side those I have mentioned above.

It was great meeting four of the team from IMS, they are my favourite company to work for and to meet the faces behind the voices was really nice.

Just a bit of advice if you do go, go to the www.stuckforstaff.com website and download their CV form, fill it in beforehand, preferably with a photo. You can get the CV forms there, which are free, but you are then charged 50p per copy, none of the agencies there will speak to you unless you hand over a copy of the CV, photos are not essential, but they do prefer the forms to have them.

There were plenty of freebies to be had as well, I came away with loads of pens and sticky pads, always very useful. :j
