I would move the "Summer holiday" to June. Shut schools for June and reopen at the beginning of August. That has the benefit of giving teachers a rest and delays the return to July, that should help the covid concern. It will also mean children won't miss out on their education. August can be a catch up on key work missing before children move to their new school year in September.
Lots of people are exhausted at the moment, and millions need to step up to get everything running again. Parents who have been trying to work with children at home need to be allowed to get back to their jobs, children need to get back to a structured earning environment.
The excuses that some teachers are coming up with at this point are starting to wear a bit thin. The country needs everyone to do their bit, teachers included.1 -

On easing of lockdown and a plan, England is very similar to Ireland when you read the guidance where it was fairly warmly received. Likewise you’d suggest other countries are moving slightly faster e.g. opening bars, hairdressers etc when we won’t have that till July so an element of caution being shown. Message of “stay alert” also used in France and I don’t believe mocked. I think a lot of negativity and fear is based on it being poorly released (Borris Sunday speech) and our media as ever being fairly toxic (Keir’s donkey field as a non-conservative example).
