How much are you getting from the job after taxes etc? £50 a day during term time? Probably less.
Is it worth it for this much stress?
£50 a week not a day, i dont pay tax because i am way under the threshold. It isnt worth the stress. I thought i was doing my bit to help at school and tbh i dont think anyone knew how this was going to turm out. But as it goes on you are right it isnt worth the stress. I have drafted out an email for the head which i will send next week. i just hoped that when my son had reached secondary school the little bit of experience of working with children would help if i wanted to get a more technical job at secondary school. I have a degree in molecular biology and masters in food science. I have took the decision to be asort of stay at home mum. i never thought it would come to this.

Don't lunchtime assistants work approx one and a quarter hours per day?  £40 per hour?
I would think a quarter of that and perhaps less.

i work for 1 hour a day. 5 days a week, about £9 an hour. I get £173.90 a month £2086 a year. I probably make more money doing surveys. I didnt do the job for money. I took the job so i could get experience with children and be there for my son.

Someone has already pointed out that this situation is not going away in the near future. Schools and businesses can't remain closed until an effective vaccination (or treatment) is in widespread use, or herd immunity achieved, as that day is still far off. The government plan was never to try and stop people from getting this virus, just to try and spread cases out so that NHS and other services weren't overwhelmed.
There's still significant deaths and I can see why the op is concerned.
Unfortunately those in ICU aren't recent infections. A month on a ventilator isn't that uncommon. The current rate of infection is the better indicator.

True, but after a month on a ventilator chances are low. The problem is there is no true rate of infection as not everyone who has symptoms is in hospital, they are trying to manage at home not in the statistics unless they die at home they may be added. They encourage you to stay at home and look after yourself! !
  • You have a right to ask for protective equipment from your employer. Presumably they will offer some too keep the kids safe as well as you.

PPE is not going to be given to teachers or assistants. I was told this by a SEN teacher and my daughters special school.

News today says that Boris' workplace inspections don't exist either. Based on the risk I would refuse to go in, the government has said that workers who do so on safety grounds will be protected. It's clearly not safe at the moment.

I sent  the head an email raising all my concerns. I was told that if I choose not to come to work because I am unhappy that is fine but I would not be paid. Mind u that's not much of a threat.

I'm sure it wasn't meant as a threat, just the reality.

The UK (England especially) has handled this outbreak much worse than almost every other country (barring the other countries run by plain old sociopaths - US, Brasil, Russia ect)
Sounds pretty normal that some people might be a bit concerned, and might not trust this 'Boris' led inept bunch in charge? The OP is just asking valid questions. It's not the OP's fault that things were handled so badly is it?
No ones claiming to want 100% virus free environments, just some sort of organised system to make it SAFER then is currently is while working!
All this "grow a pair" "be braver" "what about Denmark?" etc etc is just b*ll*cks. It's all about deflecting blame; currently it's the teachers/school workers getting it. Next time it'll be another group, and so on.
If this "Boris" had more of a grip on this from the start then the economy wouldn't be as badly hit as it has been would it?

I work in a nursery and I'm going back next Tuesday.... If I'm expected to be mixing with kids, other adults who aren't my family etc then I'm going to be seeing my family. With social distancing of course.

Thank you. I am working at the school at the moment and unlike most of my team have been in supporting the school since lockdown started. I just want to know that the school will consider that safety for all of us is just as important as keeping the parents of the kids happy. The school phoned me and told me that if I didn't feel happy to return then I wouldn't get paid. I really don't care about the money but I won't be bullied into accepting a poor and unsafe conditions either. If they are proposing that teachers are going to have a bubble group then what's unreasonable to expect that I can keep to something similar. Unfortunately we don't have enough middays to cover the 18 groups that the head is planning to have. They said that the teachers will have to help a bit. I don't want to add anything more to the teachers but I think we are going to need their support. 2 middays resigned today so things are not looking good.
