bill why is there a problem if you want to move house? I plan to move soon and was assured by Talk talk that they will take care of the transfer quickly and smoothly you can keep the same number if in the same area code and there will be no cost. Is this not so? This is one of the reasons I went with talk talk.

At the present time when you move Cherry Picking Talk Talk will tell you to go back to BT and then return to them. Which could involve you up to a £125 reconnection charge with BT,and then a £70 cancellation fee.Talk Talk can install lines themselves but they have been refuseing not to do so far as its not 'financially advantageous' to them.
• It isnt a free trial that talktalk offer. its a 30 day trial, but this is not free and it does not say this on the website.

The 30 day trial means you can leave within 30 days of connection for no cessation fee. You are still liable for any charges for equipment, call usage and line/package costs.

The website actually says ":We're offering all new broadband customers a 30 day trial - if you don't like your chosen package you can cancel, quibble free, within 30 days."

The link to the actual T&C still conveniently does not work.
• I was assured that when I move in the very near future that they would move me hassle free no cost, no reconnection fee and I could keep my number and they would do all the ground work. If this is not so then I had better cancel right away before I get my package. any advice anyone.

They were telling you porkies. They have been offering line rental for some years now,and up until now have never actively offered to connect people moving home always referring them back to BT.

A recent quote from a uSwitch spokesperson says it all.

"Steve Weller of uSwitch says it is time for phone companies to stop passing the buck. "Companies are more than happy splashing out to acquire new customers, but are prepared to drop them in a flash as soon as the going gets tough. It's clear having to set up a phone line on the customer's behalf when they move is either too expensive or too cumbersome for some companies to bother with. They would far rather drop the customer and cherry pick a new one that is already settled on a BT line," he says."

oh yuck so should I cancel them now then? Is there any way of getting this in writing because we are definately moving in the near future. We are still not live yet as this only happened last week but they said we will be live in 21 days from the contract made on the phone.
• There is a team within talktalk who deal with home movers specificlly and nothing else... aptly named the Homemovers team.

They are trialling new line activation at the moment so you can be placed on this if you request it although i think they have activated around 4000 lines already so it is quite a big trial.

As with bt, if the new line installation in the property your moving too requires an engineer visit there is a charge of £119 to get this installed (BT charge £124). If there is an already ACTIVE bt line they can move you at no cost.

Either way there is a team which manage this within talktalk and you will be transferred to them when you want to move house.

Whilst their may be a team trialling it,Talk Talk sales still continue to tell people to move back to BT.

Plus you can get half price connection with BT.

This is for new customers. If you are an existing customer moving home, you are not asked to contact BT.
