This is for new customers. If you are an existing customer moving home, you are not asked to contact BT.

The several calls a week I get say otherwise.

I've just been reading some of the horror stories on the TalkTalk poll thread. We're in the process of transfering from BT line/Virgin BB to Talk3-free BB (for life), and "go live" in a few days. We have the TT modem, and our exchange is 8Mb BB compatible (">4.5Mb") according to the TT tech support. So for me the trial period is going to be very important - if the BB isn't up to scratch/connection isn't good - I'm going to rapidly cancel. Any potential pitfalls in this strategy...?

If it works okay you'll know straight away. I was disappointed myself as I know a few people who are happy with TalkTalk.

If you find TalkTalk doesn't work for you then select the bare basic BT reconnection (you will lose voicemail and other features until you re-enable them) you might get locked into a long contract with BT otherwise.

BT quote 10 days to reconnect and most ISPs won't quote a lead time until you're back with BT. Once back to BT we ordered from Be and it went live within 7 days, so you might be without broadband for a short period.

I've just spoken to customer services and they are refunding the £70 cessation fee because I cancelled within the 30 day (definitely NOT FREE) trial period. You will also have to write off the £29.99 connection fee and the £20 for the router.

Your still be signing a 12 month contract with BT for your line rental if you go back to them.
