    Update on this:

I have now received a letter from ‘BW Legal’, apparently instructed by NCPL and Trace Debt Recovery, offering me to pay monthly to clear the ‘debt’...

Non threatening language used and ‘pre approved’ monthly payment offer that I can just login and arrange...

Still not interested, but keen to hear people’s thoughts?

In a word ... desperation ?   Trace are now out of the picture and they cannot instruct anyway.

Why would you pay an amount that includes a fake scam

It's now question time for you so read this ...

Is it a Letter of Claim?

Does it offer 30 days for a response? Does it include a response form and financial forms?
If not, it is just another debt collector's letter.

NCP usually carry out their own debt collection and litigation, but when we see this 'outsourced' to someone else it is often an indication that they will not be proceeding to court.

No mention of days or financial forms etc..

Just along the lines of "This is a great offer to clear your debt, login to your account here"..

I'll just ignore this one too then. :-)

Very difficult when you don't actually have an account with them .... "it's only make believe"

Next stage is a letter before claim giving 30 days.   They then taint their claim by adding a fake £60 and that means abuse of process comes into play.

What does it state it is? Is it a letter before action? Obviously a LBA requires a response ,as the newbies thread tells you.

There are different DCBL letters and different entities of 'DCB' within the group (debt collectors, the legal arm and the bailiff arm).  You can tell if this is a real LBC if it has come from DCBLEGAL (not 'recovery') and gives 30 days to respond and talks about the pre-action protocol.

All this is explained in the NEWBIES thread, where it also talks about sending a SAR to the PPC.
