Same answer when he has gone through the gateway account . I think he needs to contact HMRC and actually speak to someone .Thanks again0

Other posters are raising the same point. It looks as if there is a computer bug in the form.0

Hopefully that’s what it is . I will keep you posted Thanks for your time0

He was employed PAYE up until 8th Jan 2016 .Then self employed from 11th Jan He submitted a tax return for 16/17 .Fully self employed since then submitting his tax returns on time for 17/18 and 18/19 . Would the tax year 16/17 make a difference to his claim if his earnings were more than his self employment earnings .0

I think you are a little confused.itsonlyme1 said:He was employed PAYE up until 8th Jan 2016 .Then self employed from 11th Jan He submitted a tax return for 16/17 .Fully self employed since then submitting his tax returns on time for 17/18 and 18/19 . If he was only on PAYE until 8th Jan 2016 why would this have any impact on the 2016:17 tax year (6 April 2016 to 5 April 2017)?0

I assume the date is 8 January 2017? The answer is no. So long as his self employed trading income in 2018/19 was at least equal to his other taxable income in 2018/19, he passes the 50% test.
The fact that he started self employment part way through 2016/17 does not affect the way the grant is calculated. The average monthly earnings will still be calculated by dividing the self employment income from 11 January 2017 to 5 April 2019 by 36.0

I was getting confused there .Just realised it wouldn’t affect 16/17 . I think that I am trying to understand why he wouldn’t be entitled .0

Try again and see what it says. There are several people reporting this problem. If you get nowhere, try contacting HMRC.1

My partner is a self employed builder and meets the criteria but was told he is ineligible too and tried a few times. He has since tried again and it now says he is eligible so it could be their system.0
