I'm just clearing a house too and have been disappointed at how little we've found - about £85 and I've a couple of old fivers to pay in next time I get to a bank.  I did find a jar with about 9 quid in 20ps.  My parents had the largest wardrobe known to humanity - full of bedding etc. - in the house when they bought it as it was too large to remove and will remain there when we sell it too - and my sister and I went through every single blasted sheet, pillowcase, towel and table cloth and didn't find a penny.  We were convinced it was Mum's hiding place.

I feel guilty now! 

I'm not sure I understand your point? 

Our concern was taking many bin bags worth of old towels etc. to be recycled, if there was hidden money in it.

My Granddad hid 25 grand in the bed posts of an iron bed (the caps could be unscrewed and they were hollow). So make sure you check inside all furniture, strip it down properly.
