My aunt had it all over her flat, even tucked inside a couple of packets of Tena Ladies. The rest in pockets of old clothing & inside books. It was a neighbour of hers who said "search everything".
My mother 'hides' cash in her knicker drawer! She's 92, probably things no-one would want to rummage around in her pants, she'd be right!Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0 -
Don't forget the garden shed, garage, Andersen shelter.... All those little tins of polish and shoeboxes.0

When my dad died aged 90, we knew he had some money squirrelled away as we could not find his building society books. He was very fit and healthy up to a few months before his death and he was in the habit of going to the Nationwide every couple of weeks and drawing the same amount of cash. We searched and searched without success. Anyhow, my nephew moved into the house and started to do it up. He found the bank books and a couple of thousand pounds. They were stuffed into a dark corner of the pantry and had to be accessed via a step ladder. The little devil had been shimmying up a ladder to get his bank books every fortnight!2

Its a hangover from when cash was king and carried over to the weekly trip to the post office for your pension and when outgoings are less than income an extra £5, 10 or 20 note can quickly build up. But you can't stop going to the post office as your pension never stops. Even if you realise that you aren't spending all your pension when you next go to the post office low and behold you are given even more than you can possibly spend. So as advised look everywhere there is probably more.1

My grandmother hid cash in among the sheets and towels in the airing cupboard.
My mother only found it because Gran had also stored packets of biscuits in there.
DH suggests the freezer - his mother's favourite hiding place.
Edit to add: backs of pictures and photograph frames.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.1 -

not exactly hidden, but a relative always just dumped small change on in the nearest available place. So there were endless jars, tins and boxes full of 1p & 2p - £160 in the end.0

I stash my money in a beer tankard on the dresser in the dining room. My husband keeps his in his gun cabinet ...except for the £1,000 he had forgotten he had put in the inside pocket of a rarely-worn winter coat. He found it as we left the car park at the start of a day at Cheltenham Races. Luckily he didn't spend it on the horses!#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3660
