Yesterday 31march I tried all day to submit the form for a refund following  a email from Ryanair saying I must apply for a refund? On trying to enter this system it was telling me there was a problem with the system and do I want to be transferred to their website refund system which I do? With this form I get to the end and submit many times and I had many different error readings telling me they could not accept my application!  the main one being not recognising the flight carrier. They gave me 3 options Ryanair FR and Ryanair Uk plus laudomotion uk none worked, plus I also had the errors captcha? wrong name?? Not recognising flight?all came up after each submission.
So anybody out there have any advice as to where to go know? Does Ryanair know there is a problem and if so why are they not notifying us???

    Hello everyone,
This to let you know we too got the email Saigongal received. Ours arrived on 28/3/20:

    Dear Customer,

Due to the high volume of flight cancellations due to COVID 19, we are experiencing an unprecedented high volume of requests. We are currently working through the backlog and ask that you please bear with us.
Please do not resubmit your request.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
    Yours sincerely,
    Ryanair Customer Services

We hope that this gives some degree of reassurance here that refunds are on the way and will update soonest when we see ours arrive in the bank. Wishing everyone safe and well.

Cliché of the day: Yes it's important, but there's probably more important things than money. No, not toilet rolls...

Just to confirm I've had the same e-mail a few days ago. No money has been forthcoming on my credit card yet, but that's to be expected.

Our system is set up so we can 'refund all' in the event of a cancellation (not an airline) and reverse payments, so I'm not sure why Ryanair don't have something similar in place, but it's probably so they can offer vouchers instead........

To give Ryanair a little bit of credit, they are at least making it relatively simple to claim a refund via the form.  Some airlines are making it a lot more difficult, and some International flag carriers are flat out refusing!

Ryanair carried 10 million passengers in February 2020.  Let's say there's an average of 3 people per booking, that's still 3 million bookings.  The numbers they are dealing with here are mind boggling, it's going to be a marathon not a sprint!

I'm not suggesting that Ryanair are acting improperly at all, far from it, and as Europe's largest airline, there are bound to be technical difficulties simply due to the sheer size of their operation.

Also, at least they haven't completely closed all new claims for a month like one of their rivals. Some credit is definitely due there.

Has anybody actually gotten a refund yet? I had a flight cancelled for 21st March and am still to receive the refund.

go through the convoluted process. Get your IBAN and BIC number ready from bank account.

    Hope this helps everyone
  • Sorry. Ryanair rejected the eu261 directive because of ‘unforeseen circumstances’.

That's not the correct form as you're not claiming EU261 compensation or expenses.  The form you need is the refund form - either follow the link from your cancellation email, or from your booking details on the Ryanair website.
  • I got a 'system error' but then realized that Ryanair had sent me a text and email even though I had already applied for a refund previously. I'm guessing they haven't processed it yet, and so haven't realized they shouldn't be sending out another text / email - guess their systems aren't connected up.
Worth searching for the booking reference in your past emails first to see if you've applied already, if you get this error.
