Glad it's not only me that found february harder than january
  • ohs wages were rubbish so we've just got enough to pay the bills and the normal payments on our debts:mad: i really want him to have a good month soon so we can pay a bit extra on one of these bloomin debts!!! its never gonna be paid by xmas at this rate:rolleyes:
    'They only had one cow!'
  • How exciting - pay has landed in my account and the first two debt repayments have gone out to the tune of £700 already. Siggy won't get updated until they have all cleared the other end though so watch this space next week....

I love it when money MOVES [in the right direction]
£34,547 (Dec 07); Current debt: £zilch (Debt free December 2010)
    Sealed Pot #389 (2010=£133)
  • i'm intrigued (and no doubt thick) cos how do you (and all the other posters) propose paying off £20K by christmas?? please tell me so i can join the challenge!

Does anyone want to join me in a “Pay off/save £20,000(ish) by Xmas 2008” challenge (for me, otherwise known as the “stop faffing around” challenge).

I’m sitting here, on payday, with nothing done for Christmas and not enough money to get through the month, again. Luckily, I get paid early for January, but that means a) frenzied shopping a couple of days before Christmas  and b) being short of money again in January.

I’ve been faffing around for a whole year now. It’s taken that long for the reality to hit home. I’ve started challenges and lasted a couple of days (sometimes hours!). I’ve clicked for pennies and then gone and spent pounds. When I add up all the extra money that’s come my way this year, I’m horrified that I’m still in this position.

I think one of my problems is that I don’t post here very much. Although I do read everyday, I think I need to actually write it down and ‘put it out there’ for it to hit home. I don’t really want to start a diary, because I don’t want to bore you all with my inane (or, after the last year, probably insane) ramblings. No offence to anyone with a diary – I love reading them; I just know what rubbish is running through my mind, and you have burdens enough :) .

My amount for this year is in my signature – I actually have a huge loan as well, but that’s for next year. I know it’s a bit strange to be having a new year’s resolution now, but it would be lovely to be sitting here this time next year knowing we can relax a bit for December.

So, if you have a similar amount, or a similar timescale, or you just want to “stop faffing around”, it would be great if you could join me.

  • Hi everyone and welcome to anyone joining the challenge.

It's payday :j , so I can update totals over the next few days. Well done everyone - you're all doing so well and it's going to be a great, relaxed Xmas!

    Cluelesscashless - welcome.

I think everyone's using different ways to save more money and make more money - the challenge is about focusing and not faffing for one year, so at the end of the year we're all in a much better position.

Have a look at some of the other challenges (make £10 a day, live off £4000 a year, Olympic Challenge) for ideas about how to make and save more money.

The challenge includes normal monthly debt payments and for some people this is already brings them close to £20,000; others are going for a lower figure for the year, to suit their circumstances.

    Hope you join us.:)

    Have a good day everyone.

    morning everyone,
morning polly, haven't caught up with you in ages! I dont know about you but it doesn't look like i'll be meeting our £3000 mini challenge.

things are just too tight but i promise i have been working as hard as i can.

Can't make any payments this week as going away this weekend (sharing petrol, proper dfw) so stashed all my money, but if I come back with any it'll go straight on the debts. Other than that all the bill money is st waiting to be transferred on monday for the loan payment so things will look a lot better by then.

also go on proper holiday 3 weeks tomorrow and also trying to keep pennies back for that.
Its really becoming a bit of a pain in the bum this holiday actually as i cant put any money towards this challenge!! Can't wait til I get back and Ican start really putting some effort into it!

Have a good day everyone xxx

I am so happy!! its so sad that something like this can bring so much joy....

    Aim: 85% LTV (£212,500)
    Paid £1,500
    Target remaining: 88.89%

    Hi all!

Just caught up with about 5 pages! We paid a cheque for £42 into an overdraft account rather than normal bank yesterday, so although it's not much I'll add it to my total!

Re MONSOON (from several pages back!) - the clearance shop in Castleford (Leeds) has got dozens of rails of 'Under £5/Under £10' at the moment! I used a voucher I had and got 2 lovely tops for a tenner (therefore free!) the other day. It is undoubtably my favourite shop, an I've got loads of absolutely gorgeous stuff in my wardrobe, but I never set foot in the full price one, only the discounted one, unless the 70% off sale is on! Think the most I've ever paid for anything was £35 for a dress that had been about £150! Heard that there were some clearance rails in some of the normal stores as well, so might be worth a look (if you can avoid the new season temptations!).
