Been there....done that...and know very well it does not count as anywhere near my skill set. I am absolutely useless at anything remotely "practical" other than cooking and am very well aware my skills lie with "overall analysis of situation" (NOT a skill I'm happy with having right now I'm afraid - as my analysis of where we are all "going" on this is not a positive one I'm afraid) and are absolutely non-existent with anything remotely "practical" (other than being a pretty good cook). You name a practical/creative type skill and I will be absolutely useless (worse than useless) at it I'm afraid - it's just not me and I can make a thorough-going mess of it.
I think my hair probably grows faster than normal too and it's that standard British "far too fine/NOT my best asset" type look and it's down to keeping it "as reasonable-looking as possible" thing. Definitely wishing I'd got long/thick/manageable type hair and watching those YouTube bloggers that have long hair anyway (because their hair is capable of looking fine that way) distinctly enviously.though even willingly growing out from a short cut is universally a pain, I'm told, so I'm not unsympathetic, just pointing out that the length is a choice and more length usually makes our kind of hair more manageable. You can get all sorts of clips (pretty or sophisticated, whatever your preference) to keep it back and looking a bit more presentable.
As for the fringe, there is the twist and snip method that comes out looking reasonably shaped as long as you don't start messing with it afterwards0 -

Believe me - I have got awful hair. The only thing that's positive about it is people compliment me on the colour it went when age changed its colour (to a pretty nice silver colour from my own mousy brown). But, other than that, it is AWFUL/seriously awful. I've tried growing it before now (by choice) and it looks ghastly basically. I've long since learnt the only thing I can do for it is accept the (many people like it) colour and "do the best I can" (ie a damned expensive haircut) to make it look remotely reasonable.
Some of us really seriously do have AWFUL hair believe me and hence good haircuts are the best we can manage with it and otherwise we really do have to hide it (whether we like it or not). Well - it's either that or have a teeshirt printed to wear with arrow pointing upwards at hair saying "Not my choice -not my fault. Don't blame me for it".0 -

Obviously some people are finding a way to keep looking normal - Nicola Sturgeon comes to mind here. Her hair is still short/neat/with a fringe and looking exactly right. So how is she managing it?She is apparently cutting her own: https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/health/coronavirus/nicola-sturgeon-cuts-her-own-hair-after-husband-offers-brave-lockdown-haircut-2536529
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Well, it's looking pretty damn good for a DIY jobbie. Wish I had the guts!

#feelingdubious and then went to check if a Julie McGuire really exists on YouTube.
Couldnt find her................
If there is such a woman and she really does do such fantastic DIY tutorials #if if if - then it would be good to have a link if anyone can find one....

I only need to trim my fringe as the rest can grow as long as it likes. There’s plenty of YouTube videos on how to do it, and I’ve been quite successful. The secret seems to be not to cut it straight across which could result in a disaster, but cut into it with scissors nearly vertical and just doing very small bits at a time. Seems to work.1

@dopoliticiansactuallytellthetruthever....Why so doubting and the 'hmmm' - do you still not believe it?And yes... politiciansdoactuallytellthetruthmostimes - just because YOU couldn't find anything only means that you didn't look hard enough.Ten seconds to type in two names on one line and hit 'enter' found this.

That's what I've been doing with my fringe, really want to avoid the mullet look!I used to have very long hair which got chopped off in 1979. I've tried to let it grow since then but get very cheesed off with the process, let's hope for an end to lockdown locks soon.

I've had goes before now at my hair and .....errrmm...not a success. Given a toss-up between "grotty hair that might look like it was my fault" (ie before now I have seen some really awful haircuts around) or "covered-up hair - not my fault I can't get to a hairdresser" I'll go for the latter option, ie making it very obvious it wasnt my choice not to look "nice neat hair" as usual.
Though I've already worked out there will be my own "customisation" on any mask if we are made to wear them - wouldnt go down well with TPTB - but I'd be "dutifully obeying" and wearing a mask and the fact that I'd amended it to say just what I thought of it/disagreed with it wouldnt be unlawful LOL.
