RM remove Saturday letter delivery

Well this explains why all my 2nd class letters and LL arrived within 1-2 days in the last 6 weeks but this week are delayed grr0

Well the unit I know locally (I have no reason to doubt this isn't happening on a larger scale) has not cleared its letters any day this week.
So from yesterday they had letters and packets fail. By all accounts its been busy every day but yesterday was busy for every 'stream' as they call it in RM.
So with the bank holiday those letters will sit till Monday at the earliest.
Staff are work out with the constant demand of busy days and its unlikely to let up with the current situation.0 -
I received a large letter today, G84 (Glasgow-ish) postcode area, sent from HA (Harrow) on Wednesday.custardy said:
In classic RM style there is little guidance/clarity on this. (for customers and staff alike)RFW said:
So possibly a dumb question, are large letters always classed as letters or can they go with parcels? One item I send out is 250-300g large letter size. Would they be delivered Saturday or should they now have an extra day's delivery time?custardy said:I know recently Saturdays have been trimmed back to focus on parcels.
Seems they have made it official
A LL is a letter but given the far end of the size allowance they would be deemed as small parcels in postie terms.
however I dont see staff delivering such items in any great numbers if the focus is parcels.
I would write off Saturday for any LLs
Local interpretation of the rules taking into account local workload maybe?

All the parcels I've received on the Saturdays have been from what would be large RM account customers. If they bundle them all together, some of those could be large letters. So was yours an RM48 or RM24 type printed barcode?GaleSF63 said:I received a large letter today, G84 (Glasgow-ish) postcode area, sent from HA (Harrow) on Wednesday.

If it was a normal stamped large letter then it would be a local difference.

If a large letter is sorted into hoods ( the big sleeved parcel transport trolleys) it falls into the Saturday delivery scope.GaleSF63 said:

If it comes in via trays its a LL and not part of the Saturday operation. This would only really apply to mail on hand from Thursday as Mail centres arent dispatching these to DOs on a Saturday anyway.0 -
I was chatting with my postie on Thursday he is doing parcels only so another postie is doing two routes. I was told it is worse than Xmas for the post in the sorting office. Royal Mail is prioritizing parcels first, letters are just delivered whenever makes no difference if 1 or 2nd class. I am getting post only on a Wednesday for weeks now. I am waiting for a what I expect to be padded envelop from eBay posted Friday week ago, I am hoping it will come this Wednesday. I do not blame the seller

If you haven't already you should let the seller know. I'm keeping a close eye on the situation but I'm refunding as normal for anyone telling me they haven't received within the (usually generous) time frame. I'd hope other sellers are doing the same. Though there are extra delays, most post is getting through as normal. My guess (from my own experience) would be that below 10% are having bad delays, mine is probably around 2%, assuming there are the odd few who aren't letting me know then that could push to 3%. My post is around 1000 items per week, with around 95% being letters.donnac2558 said:I was chatting with my postie on Thursday he is doing parcels only so another postie is doing two routes. I did reply to the seller when they messaged me saying I will post on Friday if that is okay? I said my postal delivery is bad and I only seem to get post on Wednesday of each week due to my sorting office being manic and one postie covering two routes.

Well apparently very busy Saturday and even busier today plus the days missed of letters.
However I have a crossborder Tracked coming today that came into the UK on the Thursday. So network seems in decent shape0
