@savingholmes, sorry to hear that DD is not well, I wish both of you a speedy recovery. Great that you managed to get office furniture at a bargain! Well done on doing the office, it’s nice that you have cleared the living room. Regards keys, is it worth having a locksmith fit news keys? Having said that I know when you buy a house it’s recomended that you change outside 2years on I have not changed mine! XxInitial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £258k, target £243,750(halfway!)

@Sistergold
I have sometimes changed the keys on moving - but don't think we did here - it's not been a problem. With Ex - I think while DD is partially living here - there's little point changing the keys. Once she moves out - it may make more sense then... Will see how things go. I'm not expecting an issue.
I've been tackling the shed(s) today... mostly grim but did find some crystal finials still boxed... Doing some work in the garage soon - although thinking of visiting a CS to look for china...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

@savingholmes, you are right regards keys normally most people will not visit a property they are not supposed to. I personally have never changed keys when I have bought a house, I just don’t get round to it. Well done for sorting out the garage, decluttering is really satisfying. Few weeks ago I bought some garage shelves from Amazon and went through some of the boxes in the garage. I packed quite a bit on the shelves so I can easily find staff. I still need to take some staff to the dumps. XxInitial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £258k, target £243,750(halfway!)

In my previous property i don't think i changed the locks although i was working somewhere that changed locks so i might have done (it was 15 years ago).
I did when i moved here. The prevoois couple were lovely and also left 5 copies of keys. I had no reason to doubt they had handed then all over but there was the niggling 'what if'. What if i was burgled and the insurers asked and wouldn't pay out because i hadn't changed them?1 -

Have just been trying to fix one thing at a time. Also been trying to keep up with general repairs.When I bought the house all outside lights were not working. Bought some sensor flood lights from Amazon some of which were fixed. There were four two at the front two at the back. 3 were swapped and worked but one right at the front of house/garage was found that it actually did not seem to have electricity coming through so that did not work with the new light.I have since managed to get an electrician who came and did repairs at my work place to come to my house. I need more power points in general to avoid so many extension cables which end up looking untidy.
He has quoted me £1710 to do theElectrics listed below1. Entrance way double plug for phone and Wi-Fi2. Bathroom light change3. Loft lights x34. Outside plug front of garage5. Garage flood light big IP light with sensor6. Extra lights garage7. 4x double plugs garage8. Bedroom socket 2x double plugs9. Landing plug change direction10. Small lounge plugs change direction11. Shorten all bedroom lights12. 3x lounge plugs
I felt it was expensive but to be honest I just want the work done. I also find once someone sees your house they can just decide you should be able to afford it which is really ugggg, he refused to budge on the price. Suspect it was a woman thing again?I have paid him a deposit to buy materials and he will hopefully start the work tomorrow! I can not wait to have a flood light turning on once I drive into my driveway!Initial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £258k, target £243,750(halfway!)

Ouch to the electric bill. It does sound expensive. My only experience of paying an electrician was about £30-50 for an oven socket last year - but that was converting an existing one rather than putting in new. I imagine it is partly London pricing, partly size of house - partly with C19 people are charging more.
Well done on knocking 2.5 years off the term. I think you are doing really well - and given that you recently renovated another property for £20K and have hefty extension savings - you are more than capable of knocking further huge chunks off the mortgage.
Well my decree absolute went through Monday and my new mortgage of £202K went through today. So my new journey to mortgage freedom in 22 years or less has begun.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

It is interesting isn't it. They look at your house & basically decide they can charge as much as they like because you must be able to afford it. They look at my small house in a nice but pretty cheap area & decide I can't afford something. I have just had a conversation with my new boilerman who was looking at doing a cheapo repair that would do for a while but the repair parts were so expensive I said lets go for a new one I'm looking for a winchester/bosch level one. As in buy cheap buy twice is not happening again in this house. So let's all keep our fingers crossed that the WD40 spray makes this boiler last until 16th December!
