Oh hello dear diary and ladies! Nice to be keeping up and updating again. I want to motivate myself and build up to next year when I hope I will be able to make a massive OP (God allowing 🤞🏽). Everything has to align ofcause for this to happen but in the meantime every little helps. As mentioned when I noticed that my monthly payment had gone down by about £30 I decided I will add that to the OP. I contacted WestBrom today and asked them to increase my OP from £60 to £94.Monthly payment went out yesterday and so the balance has nicely gone down to the £250sK. I must say suddenly I do feel very optimistic about my mortgage. If the mortgage rate should go down again that will really be nice but so far I am thankful the little rate decreases.Anyway balance as of today after direct debitAlso 15yrs 5months left on the mortgage 🏃🏽♀️➡️🏃🏽♀️➡️🏃🏽♀️➡️Initial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £258k, target £243,750(halfway!)

@Sistergold well done to you and your daughter on her GCSE result. I had a similar issue with my son but I wasn't able to help him as he generally says things are fine and he can handle it. This was despite his abysmal mocks. He wouldn't let me help him. I am not sure how to handle this. He was hoping to study biology at A levels but doesn't have the 6 his 6th form needed to study for it. Ah well.
Great to see your mortgage is coming down. Mine is coming down from its lofty heights and I have till the end of my 10 year fix to pay it off. This would be in 2032 by God's grace.1 -
@Sistergold I just saw I namechanged there. I didn't realise I had 2 accounts0

For me concerning my daughter well before the mocks I asked the school about what I can do to help as the report cards were not good and they kept saying she was on track. I would also ask her if she is studying when I know she is going to write her mocks. The answer was always that all was under control. As I was not convinced I then just added more extra lessons. When the end of year 10 mocks came I then knew that she was on track to fail more like.
I did not give my daughter the option to refuse my help. I sat her down basically told her that all these years we have done it her way and she has been failing now we will do it my way. She did not take it kindly, most of the time she will be rolling her eyes during the process and giving terrible body language throughout you know how children can be dramatic to show protest?. She only changed later towards her exams as it was obvious I will not giving up and her friends were saying she is lucky that I am teaching her and if I could teach them? Well at least she knew I was only taking the time as she was my daughter not that I generally have the time. The whole process meant no social life for me and I was so tired by the end of it all. To be honest @maddyhale I am just glad it’s all done!As for your son if he knows what course he wants to do there is always the foundation course after A-levels. Then proceed to university after the foundation I guess?Initial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £258k, target £243,750(halfway!)

Well done for being a full own parent - I think giving teenagers no choice is sometimes the way forward
However I am sure she was comforted and actually despite all the eye rolling really appreciated the 'lets all win together on this' attitude you bought

No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

You are so right @LadyWithAPlan teenage years can be overwhelming trying to act like an adult yet you are still a child. I remember as a teenager I felt I had all the answers.Initial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £258k, target £243,750(halfway!)

I think @dawnybabes wins on the teenage affliction here!! Ouch SG though, dare i ask what he was buying?!! I guess if its all one large joint account its harder to track the overspend. If you had had YNAB ...

I lived with someone for years and similarly made financial decisions based on us being together forever, also a mistake when he hit mental health issues from making, then losing £££££££'s.. (yes count the £ signs) I swore I would never live with anyone again and havent, always kept my own home since.
