Simple bank account with High Street branches

Lloyds app is excellent for paying in cheques and even lets me pay in the kids cheques into their accounts. I never tried it until this virus lockdown started but now I am converted and wonder why I would ever really need to visit a branch in future.

I used the Barclays App yesterday to pay in a cheque for the first time. I had a horrible time trying to get it to photograph the cheque, but after about 30mins of trying eventually it worked and the cheque appears to have cleared. Could have been my phone/camera, but the app just wasn't recognising the outline of the cheque to photograph. I may try the Lloyds app next time to see if I have better luck.

I have done a few with the Lloyds app and it takes no more than a few seconds and takes each photo automatically when it feels that the image quality is good enough. I have been using a black background (my laptop lid) so maybe that helps.0

Glad its not just me
As I said, it was idle curiosity as I know where the nearest Halifax branch is. No intention of going there or anywhere else at the moment. I just find that sort of thing on websites irritating, much like the Santander disappeared Secure messaging facility. Doesn't take much to irritate me at the moment, and before anyone jumps innorthwalesd said:
They've done the same on the Llloyds website (well as far as I can see).badger09 said:Out of idle curiosity I just tried to locate my nearest Halifax branch. Nowhere on the 'Branch Finder' page can I see any link to click, apart from a list of temporary branch closures due to Covid.
Is it just me?
I do realise how insignificant these minuscule irritations are 1 -
I opened a basic account with Co-op about two years ago to keep my matched betting banking separate whilst I was preparing to buy a house, which has all the basic functionality you may require - online access, debit card and counter service. Found them very helpful and unobtrusive when I went to the short appointment to open the account without the pushy sales pitch you can sometimes encounter at the “bigger” banksSave £12k in 2020 #42 £12,551.25 / £14,000 89.65%0

The OP hasn't asked about Apps and Digital Cheque Deposits. Why can't people just answer the question.
To the OP: check who's on your local high street, see who's open on a Saturday too. They will all offer an 'Everyday' or 'Basic' Current Account with no frills, no fees, no requirements or minimum pay in or direct debits or logging on or paperless. Choose who you like the sound of best.

OP had already confirmed they were going with Halifax in reply 5 and this is a forum where we talk about stuff which might be useful to each other.20SmthngSver said:The OP hasn't asked about Apps and Digital Cheque Deposits. Why can't people just answer the question.

No but they asked for an easy way to pay cheques in and nothing is easier than using an app that supports it.20SmthngSver said:The OP hasn't asked about Apps and Digital Cheque Deposits. Why can't people just answer the question.

OP actually asked about a simple bank account with High Street branches. Not about who has the best app. Also, apps have cheque total limits, branches do not.
Talking about stuff that's useful to the question, yes. I've noticed that people seem to not actually answer directly, and give an answer to a question not actually asked. Just an observation. Answering a question about branches shouldn't be responded to with an answer about an app.

Again difficult to answer not knowing OP’s locality, plus branches are closing all the time whereas App services are nigh-on 100% accessible.20SmthngSver said:OP actually asked about a simple bank account with High Street branches. What was provided was an alternate response, but still an answer nonetheless.2
