Are you still selling/buying on Ebay?

I haven't sold anything on ebay for many years but have continued to buy stuff we need through ebay & Amazon. Mostly I use business sellers but occasionally buy from private sellers. I'm prepared for some delays and would not mark down for something almost certainly outside sellers' control. I've been buying through ebay for more than 15 years and have had very few problems; a couple which were clearly scams and another handful where item either didn't arrive at all or was not what I'd ordered.
Its probably naive of me, but I'd hope most buyers are not 'thieves', but genuine people, like me.0 -
I used to sell regularly on ebay and once lock down came into force and I sold my last item I removed all listings, any watchers I had on my item I sent them an offer, once that expired I removed them too. Brought a few things on there that we needed and we couldn't get it elsewhere other than that nothing like before...0

Part of me wants to try and sell unwanted stuff but my conscience tells me otherwise. If I schedule listings for say 25th December do I get charged anything for leaving them scheduled? In the past I made lots of drafts and Ebay in its wisdom deleted them for me lol.0

You can't schedule to start later than 28 days (or is it 21?) You need to keep on moving the schedule date.0

Valid point on the post offices, was considering selling personal stuff but just wondering if worth while doing now. Being conscious that people are probably not spending as much.soolin said:
There are a lot of discussions on various boards asking this question, lots of responses all saying different things. Many post offices remain closed so if you do start selling make sure you have access to one. If you use a mail centre over the counter be aware of their new very short opening hours, but if like me you use PPI on business mail then it should be fine as my mail centre is still open for that with their usual extended hours.BargainJunky said:I sell our own unwanted stuff on Ebay and stopped about four weeks ago when my listings ended. I am unsure whether to start selling again as we have sorted out loads of things that we no longer need or want. I can combine posting with daily exercise but not sure whether its the right thing to do. Opinions would be welcome.I suspect that some sellers may consider reopening tomorrow as if they opted for the no fees for a closed shop, the 15 days closed needed to qualify for half fees this month should be up tomorrow.Just be aware that late defects are a real issue with many areas not getting a guaranteed daily delivery.

I also sell mainly private unwanted items and I have continued to sell throughout this period. I have just explained to buyers to expect deliveries being delayed and as of yet haven’t seemed to have had any issues.Officially a homeowner 🥳🥳

I’ve still been buying bits. Most have turned up within a week or so, one took 2 weeks.I appreciated the seller who emailed me to say she uses gloves to pack items. But we either wipe items or for clothes, put them straight in to wash anyway.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0

I’ve taken the decision to fully reopen my eBay business shop, our mail centre is still open the usual long hours for business post and my OH needs the walk. He’s already going about 4 times a week with all the Facebook sales and the bits and bobs I sell on my private account, so might as well take my other stuff as well. Last Saturday we sent a parcel to my son, Rm48 (so basically 2nd class) and it arrived Monday, which was very impressive.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I've still been buying and selling on eBay as usual despite lockdown. I have both bought and sold since it all started and the only real issue I have run into is that I have received my deliveries late, and my customers have received theirs late (luckily I exaggerate the estimated delivery time so no one has been disappointed).
If your wanting to buy things online during lockdown, the best way to ensure it's delivered on time is to order on Amazon with Amazon Prime. Every single item I have ordered has arrived on time despite various warnings on the site that deliveries might be delayed.0 -
I've had some praise when second class arrived next day, I'm also getting ten day delays, so be aware, one was my nephew's birthday card so I know that was a genuine delay.soolin said:I’ve taken the decision to fully reopen my eBay business shop, our mail centre is still open the usual long hours for business post and my OH needs the walk. I'm sending around 1000 letters and large letters per week, going straight to local sorting office. I can just about handle the complaints/queries on delayed deliveries but there are certainly more than expected even on higher volume going out. Most stuff is getting through perfectly ok though and most people are expecting delays.
