Or just let it stand for 24 hours

You certainly can do that, packaging on a desk though is not just a simple box though.
It is if it's flat packed.  Which, as the OP mentions assembling, this desk probably was.

Have you ever put together flat pack furniture? It would be a nightmare to re pack as the desk top must be quiet a big box sleeve or whatever is used.
It's still a cardboard box and hardly complex packaging.

It's not just a cardboard box, it will involve blocks of custom made polystyrene etc.

It could do but not all do.

Like you did? You can't make assumptions and then tell others off for doing the same thing.
Tables tend to be rather heavy and would be in heavy-duty boxes with internal packaging to protect the corners.

Wow and your not assuming anything at all, I've built a lot of flat pack furniture in my time and all of them have custom made packaging.

If the OP hadn't opened and assembled a desk he didn't order there wouldn't be a problem. I guess he thought he was getting something for nothing, that's nobody's fault but his own.

The retailer will already now have an item they can't resell due to OP's lack of honesty, why should they also have to provide packaging?

  • Resolution update: Apparently due to the circumstances of how the desk was supplied through an amazon order, I can't buy the goods from the parent company so a return is the only option. Managed to get some large cardboard boxes from Tesco so we're awaiting on a collection date to return. All's well that ends well I suppose, Just wished it didn't take 3 weeks to get to this point. Guess I'm never throwing away any packaging now for anything cumbersome that gets delivered to me ever again. Thanks all for your comments and help!.

Please enlighten us then, what was the last one you built that didn't come in a box made of cardboard?
