They won't want to deal with a return and have a desk that's been assembled and repacked stuck in the corner of a warehouse so would hopefully accept a reasonable offer.
A transaction took place for the chair, it appears the company sent a chair plus a table as well in error so the extra goods are not unsolicited but there's a responsibility to take care of the goods and see they are restored.
Your second point may be fair (now realising WFH means working from home!)In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

At least that would be a win:wins situation - the company saves the costs of recovering and restocking and the OP gets a table they wanted anyway but at a discounted price.0

Their cost price minus the collection and a perhaps a bit extra as it was their error would be fair IMHO.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
I'd be inclined to contact them and explain that they sent the parcel in error and you thought it was a present from a family member as you are having to work at home. You can also point out that unfortunately you have disposed of the packaging as you should during this crisis, then ask them when and if they want to collect it. Personally I wouldn't offer to pay for the packaging myself.1

No point advising him to do what he's already done!1

You say first the company you ordered the desk from sent a desk, but them you say the company name was not the one you ordered the chair from.
How did they get your name and address?0 -

I recycle all outer packaging at the moment because it could be contaminated with Covid 19, its common sense. Also I know they have refused to provide the specialised packaging, so I'd simply not return it until they do.
