I have been both self-employed (with zero income for this year) as well as starting a new job from home from September 2020.
    Can I claim?
I should probably have cancelled my self-emoloyment but I did not do this.
  • If you were employed and had to WFH due to Covid-19 yes, you just include the expense on your 2020:21 Self Assessment return in due course.
  • If you do a self assessment you claim the work from home tax relief in for the past year in your 2020/21 return.  Is that correct?   Any you will still get the relief on the whole year?
  • I have done this, but I am now required to go back to work, so I am no longer working from home.
Is there anything I have to do? Do I have to somehow change my tax code back?

No, as you only had to WFH 1 day to qualify. You should receive your normal new tax code very soon as it automatically reverts back.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • Hello, I'm confused as to where to claim back the £6 a week work from home on my forthcoming 2020/21 self assessment. Where do I put it please?

On the paper return it is part of the employment page.

Online you will need to tailor the return to allow the relevant box to become available for completion.
  • I do not pay tax as working part time - can I still claim the WfH allowance??

No.  In theory you could, but as it is tax relief your tax code would get raised, but you wouldn't get any extra money as there's no tax paid anyway.

This doesn't stop your employer paying you up to £6 per week tax free.

Thanks. What do you mean by having to tailor the return to allow the relevant box to become available?
