Assuming all 3 of you pay tax, yes. It's an individual tax relief not a collective tax relief.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • yes but the point is that these could only be paid out for the actual average time off otherwise employers and employees walk into payroll or benefit in kind costs .  for employees theres the new opportunity to claim the full year at once . if employers do the sme hen close or refurlough staff they'll be a tax mess for everyone.

I'm just wondering if I'm eligible for this - I am on maternity leave but have worked some keeping in touch days (paid), attended some team meetings via zoom (unpaid but it was nice to see everyone lol), so can I claim?

I do do a self assessment for a flat I rent out, but it's separate to my employment taxes as HMRC were happy for them to be separate, so I guess I can still use the microsite?

No, you include the claim on the employment page of your Self Assessment.

They cannot be "separate", all taxable income has to be declared on a Self Assessment return.

Hi, yes sorry what I meant is that HMRC had offered to deduct my rent tax with my wages, but I wanted to keep them separate so do the self assessment.  I've only done it once, but that's great thanks, I'll add it when I do the self assessment.
  • I put in my claim for tax relief last week as have been working from home since March. I have been told today that work are paying me £6 a week from today through to April. Do I need to change anything with HMRC or is this ok as my £6 for work isn't backdated?

Apologies in advance if this has already been answered, but I've trawled through the thread and can't find one.

I'm only just aware of this tax relief. I've been working from home since 2014. I complete self assessment. If I claim for tax year 20-21 in my next self assessment that would only apply to the current tax year. How can I claim for previous years?

I've been on hold with HMRC webchat for several hours so thought I'd ask here in case anyone else is in the same boat and can advise?
  • Even if it would be an allowable expense you cannot claim for all of the earlier years.

You are still in time to amend your 2018:19 and 2019:20 Self Assessment returns but for 2016:17 and 2017:18 you will need to make a claim for overpayment relief.

If you Google overpayment relief you should find guidance on how to do this on gov.uk.
  • Hi Martin and the team, I followed the guide and applied via the Gov gateway, using my ID, which took around 30 seconds - literally. It said I should hear in around two weeks and earlier than expected, I have today received a letter changing my tax code from 1250L to 1282L. They allowed for the full £312 plus £9 for the part at the end of March. Worked for me.
