    • I have already completed the claim and have received letter with new tax code. My pay slip shows I'm getting the £1.20 per week but the information on here gives an option where by employers can pay £6 per week tax free and something about putting the £312 on the claim form which I didn't do?
    • Employers can pay you £6 a week extra tax-free. Employers can give you an allowance up to this amount and what they give you is free from tax, so you get it all (to give you more, it will need to make special arrangements).
    • Claim tax relief on £6 a week. If your employer won't pay expenses for your extra costs due to necessary working from home, but you have them, then you can ask for the amount to be deducted from your taxable income. To make the process easy, HMRC says that claims in line with the employers' payment (ie, for £6 a week) will not need to justify that figure – meaning you won't need to keep receipts or prove information. Tax relief of £6 a week equates to a gain of £1.20 a week for a basic 20% rate taxpayer, £2.40 a week for a higher 40% rate taxpayer
  • Thanks. My employer is actually Hmrc so not sure if they would pay the full allowance tax free of £312 or if I'd only be able to claim the tax relief

They must have a HR section you can ask but some large employers, definitely councils from what others have posted, will only pay £6/week if people aren't saving that much from reduced travelling costs.
  • I'm going to contact HR to find out or HMRC as I know it says you can apply for more than the £6 but have to provide bills etc. That will be pretty complex to work out exactly how much extra it is costing but at the same time having the tax relief option of £1.20 per week seems very little as I know it must be costing me more than that in heating etc.
  • Does anyone know how this works if I am full time employed (working from home) and then self employed from home also?

I think I’ve done it right but didn’t get asked when I’d started working from home which was 23rd March. Resubmitted uniform rebate plus professional subscriptions too so hope that was correct to do. The
  • I have a limited company which means I work from home part-time and I claim the flat rate home office tax relief on that through my business. However I am also an employee for another company and have had to work from home in the last few months. Can I claim tax relief through my personal tax code too?

I have been working from home since March then furloughed April to June and now back working from home full time since then. Can I still claim even though I was furloughed for a few months?
  • I want to claim from my rich employer, not my fellow taxpayers. Is this possible or will payment ultimately come from the taxpayer however I go about it?

It is your employer's choice whether they pay you the £6 or not.  If they do, it comes from their pocket but is tax-free to you.

If they don't pay anything, then you can claim a £6 reduction in taxable income from HMRC.
