TMOTCO = The Man On The Clapham Omnibus. A legal term that has been around for 100 years or so, used to refer to the average man in the street. Which, having met Mr Dance and the Memsahib in person, I can confirm that he is certainly not.Grumpy_chap said:I don't know what TMOTCO means - I would have thought with your superior pedigree you would have learned not to use initials without giving the full phrase at the first time of use.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.3 -
Thank you - I am familiar with the phrase, just not as the abbreviation.bargepole said:

Even Prime Ministers can get caught out with the use of abbreviations, as was David Cameron using LOL as Lots Of Love and not Laugh Out Loud.0 -
I have not checked which board you major in on MSE but this board due to the nature of rogue traders, we get more than our fair share of dumbos playing games, When you say "Conveyancing Solicitor commenting on the House Buying thread" because it is a regulated industry, you are not going to get this problem.Grumpy_chap said:

I am in the top 2% wealthwise, I have a master degree, and a well above average IQ.
Regardless, the point that others are making is that, on this forum, all posters are equal and free to contribute with the best of their experience and to help others (and to not post when they do not have suitable experience or knowledge). Generally, that does not require contributors to declare their credentials, though that can be sensible if the poster has specific experience relevant to the topic - for example a Conveyancing Solicitor commenting on the House Buying thread. I would have thought that someone with an above average IQ would be able to understand this context from the thread taken as a whole.
Certain credentials are irrelevant to most boards, such as being in the top 2% wealthwise. Again, something someone with above average IQ would realise.
We, with regret have to deal with scammers whilst helping REAL people2 -
Top 2% of wealth yet is on a money saving website. Go figure.Grumpy_chap said:

"Top 2% of wealth yet is on a money saving website. Go figure."
What has that to do with the price of fish?
For one thing this forum is about fighting a parking claim which in many cases (including mine) is about the principle. I would have sooner given the first beggar I saw in the street £100.00 than pay it to the PPC.
Secondly very wealthy people can be frugal. Wealth does not mean that people are extravagant. The Queen reuses wrapping paper.

Seems a very odd boast. One that makes you question what is being said. Essentially, I dont believe him.Snakes_Belly said:"Top 2% of wealth yet is on a money saving website. Go figure."

I believe him. Owning property in London could easily take a person into that bracket.
Where I live you can buy a four bedroom house for an amulet of cat's teeth.

You are right to believe Sir Dance .... without giving too many secrets away, he is a nice elderly gentleman who is what is said on the tin and unlike many in his position, is happy to help whenever he can. However like all the regulars on here, he does not take fools lightlySnakes_Belly said:"Seems a very odd boast. One that makes you question what is being said. Essentially, I dont believe him."

Thank you David. et al.
In a country where so many are mired in debt, being in the top two percent wealthwise does not mean that one is rich beyond dreams. Over the years I have accumulated a small portfolio of modest properties. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.2
