Well they certainly work well for the human variant - and it's the first (only!) vacuum I've ever had that doesn't need a periodic attack with a pair of scissors to remove all the hair stuck round the brush!

Was that the ex or the robot vac?!!

We are stuck with chorizo as DS doesn't like bacon, I'm happy with anything which gives it a nice flavour.  The whole stew was really good and a keeper, will need to remember to print out the recipe before I loose it.  I did it in the ninja slow cooker and then changed lids to get the dumplings crispy on top for the last half hour.  Only the second time I have used the ninja slow cooker as I wasn't impressed first time, but I've seen comments online saying you have to fry off the meat and onions at the beginning to get it working well and it seemed to do the trick.  I do prefer my cheap old traditional one for most things, especially since I can dump it all in and leave it without any messing about.

@fionaandphil, definitely the only entertainment there was the vacuum cleaner. I know Watty1 saying this.

Off out to lunch as the flu symptoms have abated enough to drive. Just hoping the A12 isn't experiencing a repeat of yesterday's hold up. A lorry load of chickens caught fire and a friend spent 5 hours stuck. I still feel quite distressed at the thought of it.

Mr Sl can choose what he eats today. I shall be home this evening (early) but won't need to eat again.

    @Suffolk_lass is so right!
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!
  • Woke up from a nap and was hungry so I ate a portion of cold curry out of the fridge.

Have popped a few smallish potatoes in the oven to have with butter and pepper for tea.

I might make tomato and aubergine rice tomorrow as I am early home from work and want to use up the aubergine before it goes off.

Then maybe on Wednesday I will make squash and garlic macaroni cheese before the milk I bought goes off.

That should all see me through to supermarket delivery on Friday or Saturday (must check which).

Back from our last planned weekend away for this calendar year, so I need to get some food planning going. The toilet rolls that I order bi-monthly with my big river subscriptions came while we were away, so I shall deliver them to the food bank this afternoon, and will "pop in" to a supermarket while there as it is the other side of the next town. I must buy carrots, if nothing else. I think we shall eat light this week to get the weight-loss going again. (In-stock) Frozen small cod fillets with the last of the runner beans and some cabbage and new potatoes today, perhaps. And I have just made an orange jelly and floated the rather sour blueberries that were starting to look tired (IFKWIM) in the jelly for a simple dessert

well I currently have a meal plan that takes account of the next two weeks - which I'm quite impressed about, It also takes account of a good amount of stuff from the freezer.

Sunday's lunch tackled the last portion of last christmas's turkey and the associated tub of bread sauce.
I batch cooked ragu on Sunday - 2 double portions and one single (which will work perfectly well padded out with kidney beans to become a very unauthentic chilli.) That used a mass of home grown toms including all those that had split before being picked.
We were relatively restrained at the farmer's market - bought sausages and a single minute steak (which will get used for stir fries) plus a couple of sourdough loaves - one got eaten and the other is in the freezer.
A big batch of home grown beans was prepped and frozen - honestly, it feels like most of freezer 2 is currently taken up with beans!

Grocery spend for the month currently is at £110 with just a single shop to do - so although not "low" in the way we would have meant it a few years ago, that IS low compared to a normal month, so I'm pretty pleased with that all things considered. If I can keep it below £150 for the month I'll be happy, not least as it's starting to build the grocery account a bit ahead of christmas.

I know what you mean @EssexHebridean! I am at £141.65 with just the milk bill on Friday plus potentially a pack of unripe pears to go. If I am under £150 it will be only the second time this year, sneaking in at £99.56 for September, thanks to over a fortnight in Scotland on hols!

We have a family bag of stir-fry veg, half a pack of beansprouts and some egg noodles to combine with a freezer dive for a chicken breast and a pack of prawns to stir-fry. I wonder if it will stretch for tomorrow too 🤞
