Pyxis said:Suffolk_lass said:No meal for us last night - I did each of us each a plate of little meze dishes of snacks - olives, cheese, nuts, salty things - to have on my virtual night out with my girlfriends. Somehow I also consumed nearly a whole bottle of prosecco, a large gin and tonic with elderflower cordial and we were on a 40 minute limited call for over 2 hours! Time flies when you are having fun!
Last night I had my last glass of Prosecco, maybe for ever.
In a couple of days I have to start a new medication for an additional health problem I have developed, and alcohol is totally contra-indicated.
😥😥😥😥
While I have given it up for weeks and even for months in the past, and never have it when I’m out, it’s knowing that I just can’t any more that is making me very sad.
Especially while being in isolation.
And especially as it wasn’t very long ago that I found this really nice Prosecco as well, and was getting some delivered with my veg box every week.
Although I found a good alcohol substitute a while back in the form of a sparkling kefir water, ironically my most favourite one, grapefruit, is also on the banned list, as grapefruit is also contraindicated.
Someone, somewhere has got it in for me!

PS: My reverse plan meals for today? We had curry on Thursday and have leftover tarka dhal and chicken dhansak. Today, I’m going to cube and fry up a chicken breast, stir in the leftover dhansak and dhal and serve it on bulgar wheat for dinner. Lunch is leftover Warm French Lentil Salad from last night, made with whole lentils, ancient spring onion, a red pepper and the meat scraps from the carcass of a leftover roast duckling. (DH picked up a half-price, YS roast-in-the-bag duck at MrT’s last month. I am not impressed. If it had lived long enough to learn to swim, I’d be surprised. Barely enough meat for 2 portions. Definitely not worth the money we paid, even at half price.)"Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'

I had an upset stomach the night before last with proper tummy ache - it followed eating a simple supper of pork chop with veg and some strawberries and cream. I guess the strawberries may have been sprayed and not washed well enough or the chop was a day past its' best, or it has been so long since I eat pork that it just upset my tummy, or maybe something in the garden - who knows? We had cauliflower cheese with the outer leaves incorporated and then blueberries and greek-style yogurt last night and everything feels back to normal this morning (you just know when it isn't).

Pork can be difficult to digest, so just keep an eye on what happens when you eat it in future.6

Suffolk_lass said:Oh Pyxis, that is a pain! - my suggestion of homemade elderflower cordial does not help anyone on a low-sugar diet but a pot of tea with mint leaves added and the teabag removed quickly (and the mint left in) is a great infusion, hot or out of the fridge. It certainly tells you when your water needs more effective filtering too - we use a jug with a timer thing on top now, after making this mint tea without realising the filter had expired before.
Luckily I don’t drink coffee, but I only drink green tea, preferably the lemon one, but I can get decaffeinated green tea without lemon and can order that online from Clipper.......they do the gentle decaffeination. You have to be careful with decaffeination processes as some are ‘lethal’.
I haven’t yet found a herbal tea I like, but if the worst comes to the worst, I’ll have to put up with some, as plain hot water ain’t much fun! 😄
Stupid body falling to pieces! 😁😁😁
Still, it’s amazing what you get used to.
I gave up sugar in tea, and then in coffee for Lent when I was a teenager, and it was pretty ghastly at first, but by the end of Lent I was so used to it that I couldn’t go back to having sugar in them, and never did!
I then gave up giving up things for Lent! 😂
Having made a huge pot of a vegetable stew/thick soup with chopped paneer thing a few days ago, I had one meal with it as it was, two meals with added olive pesto, Parmesan and pasta, and plan to have the last meal with added chilli pesto and rice.(I just lurve spiders!)

greenbee said:@Pyxis - try fennel or cinnamon tea. Spices rather than herbs. I’m sure you can do something with all that turmeric you love! My mum does a cinnamon, ginger and turmeric ‘latte’ with frothy oat milk...(I just lurve spiders!)

Best to count it as a meal, otherwise it’s just being piggy! 😄
It’s even more virtuous as a meal if you are ‘using things up’! 😉(I just lurve spiders!)
